The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,commonly known as the Hong Kong Government or HKSAR Government,is the executive authorities of Hong Kong. It was formed on 1 July 1997 in accordance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1983,an international treaty lodged at the United Nations. This government replaced the former British Hong Kong Government (1842–1997). The Chief Executive and the principal officials,nominated by the chief executive,are appointed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. The Government Secretariat is headed by the Chief Secretary of Hong Kong,who is the most senior principal official of the Government. The Chief Secretary and the other secretaries jointly oversee the administration of Hong Kong,give advice to the Chief Executive as members of the Executive Council,and are accountable for their actions and policies to the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council.

He was the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority,Hong Kong's de facto central bank,holding the position for 16 years. In 2011 Yam was elected to a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Bank UBS AG. In 2014,following UBS AG's restructuring,he was appointed to the board of directors of the UBS Group AG and served in the position till May 2017. He has been a member of the Corporate Culture and Responsibility Committee and the Risk Committee of the UBS Group AG since 2011 and a non-official member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong since 2017.

The Hong Kong coinage,including 10¢,20¢,50¢,$1,$2,$5 &$10,is issued by Hong Kong Monetary Authority on behalf of the Government of Hong Kong. From 1863 until 1992,these coins were embossed with the reigning British monarch's effigy. Since 1 January 1993,a new series depicting the bauhinia flower was gradually issued,including a new denomination of $10. Since the beginning of the coin replacement programme on 1 January 1993,over 585 million coins featuring Queen Elizabeth II have been withdrawn from circulation. The issue of banknotes of the Hong Kong dollar is governed in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA),the governmental currency board of Hong Kong. Under licence from the HKMA,three commercial banks issue their own banknotes for general circulation in the region. Notes are also issued by the HKMA itself.

The 2017 Hong Kong Chief Executive election was held on 26 March 2017 for the 5th term of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong (CE),the highest office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Former Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam beat former Financial Secretary John Tsang and retired judge Woo Kwok-hing,receiving 777 votes from the 1,194-member Election Committee.
The Tragic Fantasy - Tiger of Wanchai is a 1994 Hong Kong action crime thriller film directed by Stephen Lo and Joe Chu and starring Simon Yam,Lau Ching-wan,Wan Yeung-ming and Roy Cheung. The film is based on the life of Sun Yee On triad member Andely Chan,nicknamed the "Tiger of Wan Chai",who was murdered in Macau in November 1993.

The 2022 Hong Kong Chief Executive election was held on 8 May 2022 for the 6th term of the Chief Executive (CE),the highest office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Incumbent Carrie Lam,who was elected in 2017,declined to seek a second term for family reasons and finished her term on 30 June 2022. Former Chief Secretary John Lee was the sole candidate approved by the central government of China in the election and the only candidate to be nominated. He received 1,416 electoral votes (99.44%) and assumed office on 1 July 2022.
