North Bridgton is a village in the town of Bridgton in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. It is located just west of Long Lake, and just south of the town of Harrison. In 1768, the undeveloped land was granted by the Massachusetts General Court to a group of proprietors led by a man named Moody Bridges. Settlement began in 1770, when a tavern was built. [1]
It is home to Bridgton Academy, an all-boys college-preparatory school. North Bridgton was once served by the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad. One of the last surviving iron bridges from Maine's narrow-gauge railway, built in 1898 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company of East Berlin, Connecticut, once spanned Stevens Brook. It was salvaged by a private collector and is undergoing restoration by the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum in Portland. [4]

Oxford station was a historic railroad station in Oxford, Maine. The station was built in 1883 by the Grand Trunk Railroad linking Oxford with Montreal and Portland, Maine. The village grew especially after the arrival of the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad toward the end of 1840. The railroad opened the village to several business ventures between Portland and Montreal. The railroad passes through the midst of the town, in the same general line with the river, and has a station a short distance south of the centre.
Hancock Brook is an east-bank tributary to the Saco River at Hiram, Maine. The brook originates in eastern Denmark and flows through a chain of ponds along the border between Hiram and Sebago. The narrow-gauge Bridgton and Saco River Railroad was built along the brook in 1882, and operated until 1941.
