O'Dea High School is a Catholic all boys high school founded in 1923 and is located in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood. The school is named after Edward John O'Dea who was bishop of Seattle when the school was built. O'Dea is a part of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
Of its 480 students in four grades in 2022, 56% were Catholics, 53% were Caucasian, 16% were African American, and 19% were multi-racial. [5] [9] There are 36 instructors and the student-teacher ratio is 14 to 1. [6] The tuition at O'Dea High School for the 2023-2024 school year was $19,555; the school provides over $2 million in financial aid every year. [6]

In 2012, the principal of O'Dea at the time, Brother Walczak was accused of sexually abusing a minor in the 1970s. Walczak denied the allegations but resigned as principal. [23]

Nathaniel Eugene Burleson is a Canadian-American television host, football commentator, and former football player. He played professionally as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Playing college football for the Nevada Wolf Pack, he earned first-team All-American honors in 2002. Burleson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2003 NFL draft. He was also a member of the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.

Following his freshman season, he declared for the 2022 NBA draft, where he was selected with the first overall pick by the Orlando Magic. Banchero was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2023.

Rhonda Smith-Banchero is an American former basketball player. She played college basketball for the Washington Huskies where she graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,948 points and was inducted to the Husky Hall of Fame in 2004. She went on to play professionally for several seasons, including for the Sacramento Monarchs in the WNBA.
