Jones County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,172, making it the fourth-least populous county in North Carolina. Its county seat is Trenton. Jones County is part of the New Bern, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Durham County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 324,833, making it the sixth-most populous county in North Carolina. Its county seat is Durham, which is the only incorporated municipality predominantly in the county, though very small portions of cities and towns mostly in neighboring counties also extend into Durham County. The central and southern parts of Durham County are highly urban, consisting of the city as well as several unincorporated suburbs. Southeastern Durham County is dominated by the Research Triangle Park, most of which is in Durham County. The northern third of Durham County is rural in nature.
Brunswick County is the southernmost county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 136,693. Its population was only 73,143 in 2000, making it one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. With a nominal growth rate of approximately 47% in ten years, much of the growth is centered in the eastern section of the county in the suburbs of Wilmington such as Leland, Belville and Southport. The county seat is Bolivia, which at a population of around 150 people is among the least populous county seats in the state.

The tornado outbreak of April 6–9, 1998 was a large tornado outbreak that started on April 6 across the Great Plains and ended on April 9 across the Carolinas and Georgia. A total of 62 tornadoes touched down from the Middle Atlantic States to the Midwestern United States and Texas. The outbreak is infamous for producing a deadly F5 that tore through the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama, killing 32 people. The Birmingham tornado was one of only two F5 tornadoes that year. The other hit in Lawrence County, Tennessee, on April 16, as part of the same outbreak as the Nashville F3 tornado. This tornado outbreak was responsible for 41 deaths: 7 in Georgia and 34 in Alabama.

Oak Grove is a historic home located near Erwin in Harnett County and Cumberland County, North Carolina. It was built about 1764, and is a two-story, five bay by two bay, Georgian frame dwelling. It has a full-width front porch and shed roofed wings. During the American Civil War, in March, 1865, the Battle of Averasborough was fought on the grounds of Oak Grove.
Marine Corps Outlying Field Oak Grove is an auxiliary airport of the United States Marine Corps located near Pollocksville, North Carolina. It was opened on 4 May 1943 during World War II as an outlying field of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. During the war numerous fighter squadrons to include VMF-321 and VMF-323 trained at Oak Grove prior to deploying. After the war, Oak Grove and Marine Corps Auxiliary Airfield Kinston were the MCAS Cherry Point outlying fields to remain open. On 15 June 1947 Oak Grove became a permanent OLF of Cherry Point and today is used for helicopter, tilt-rotor and AV-8B Harrier training.
