Orchidophilus is a genus of true weevils in the subfamily Baridinae. There are six species. [2] These weevils live in orchids, and are known generally as orchid weevils. They are native to Indonesia, the Philippines, and surrounding islands, and they can sometimes be found in shipments of cultivated orchids. Two species, Orchiophilus aterrimus and O. perigrinator, are pests of orchids that have become naturalized outside their native range. [3] [4]

Curculionidae Family of beetles

The Curculionidae are the family of the "true" weevils. They are one of the largest animal families, with 6,800 genera and 83,000 species described worldwide.

Belidae Family of beetles

Belidae is a family of weevils, called belids or primitive weevils because they have straight antennae, unlike the "true weevils" or Curculionidae which have elbowed antennae. They are sometimes known as "cycad weevils", but this properly refers to a few species from the genera Parallocorynus and Rhopalotria.

Zacladus Genus of beetles

Zacladus is a genus of true weevils alternatively placed in the subfamily Ceutorhynchinae or in the tribe Ceutorhynchini in the subfamily Baridinae.

Pseudolechriops is a genus of Central American weevils alternatively placed in the subfamily Conoderinae or Baridinae. Established by the English entomologist George Charles Champion in 1906, the genus contained only one species, P. megacephala, until several related species were described in 2005.

Otiorhynchus Genus of beetles

Otiorhynchus is a large genus of weevils in the family Curculionidae. Many species of the genus, particularly the black vine weevil and the strawberry root weevil, are important pests, both as larvae and as adults. Larvae feed on plant roots. Adults are flightless with fused elytra and feed at night on plant foliage. In many species of the genus at least some races are polyploid and parthenogenetic, while the rest of the races and species are diploid and bisexual. Otiorhynchus weevils, particularly O. scaber, have been a popular subject for studies of the evolution of parthenogenesis. The genus is native to the Palearctic region. However, sixteen species were inadvertently introduced to North America and have become widespread there.

Sitona Genus of beetles

Sitona is a large genus of weevils in the family Curculionidae native to the Nearctic and Palaearctic regions. Over 100 species have been described. Sitona is easily distinguished from related genera by flat, recumbent scales on the mandibles, by the absence of an oval scar on the mandibles, by short and broad rostrum with a deep, longitudinal, median groove, and by dense scales on the body.

Baridinae Subfamily of beetles

Baridinae is a subfamily of true weevils (Curculionidae). It was established by Carl Johan Schönherr in 1836. Some 4,300 species in 550 genera are placed here, most of which occur in the New World. A few are economically significant pests, while others are in turn used for biocontrol of invasive plant pests. This subfamily also contains a few endangered species.

Trichosirocalus is a genus of true weevils, native to the Old World, placed alternatively in the subfamily Ceutorhynchinae or in the tribe Ceutorhynchini of the subfamily Baridinae.

Madarini Tribe of beetles

Madarini is a true weevil tribe in the subfamily Baridinae.

Ceutorhynchini Tribe of beetles

Ceutorhynchini is a true weevil tribe in the subfamily Baridinae.

Limnobaris dolorosa Species of beetle

Limnobaris dolorosa is a species of weevil native to Europe.

Orchestes fagi Species of beetle

Orchestes fagi , beech leaf-miner beetle, is a species of weevil native to Europe. The larvae mine the leaves of beech. It is an invasive species in Canada where it is damaging to American beech.

Lepidophorus Genus of beetles

Lepidophorus is a genus of broad-nosed weevils in the family Curculionidae. There are about 13 described species in Lepidophorus.

Mesagroicus is a genus of broad-nosed weevils in the beetle family Curculionidae. There are at least 40 described species in Mesagroicus.

Micralcinus is a genus of true weevils in the beetle family Curculionidae. There are about five described species in Micralcinus.

Orchidophilus aterrimus, the orchid weevil, is a species of flower weevil in the beetle family Curculionidae. It is found in Europe.

Eucilinus is a genus of broad-nosed weevils in the beetle family Curculionidae. There are at least three described species in Eucilinus.

Perigaster is a genus of minute seed weevils in the beetle family Curculionidae. There are about seven described species in Perigaster.

Phloeophagus Genus of beetles

Phloeophagus is a genus of true weevils in the beetle family Curculionidae. There are more than 30 described species in Phloeophagus.

Agronus is a genus of broad-nosed weevils in the beetle family Curculionidae. There are at least three described species in Agronus.
