Ozodicera is a genus of true crane fly.
The Pyrgotidae are an unusual family of flies (Diptera), one of only two families of Cyclorrhapha that lack ocelli. Most species are "picture-winged", as is typical among the Tephritoidea, but unlike other tephritoids, they are endoparasitoids; the females pursue scarab beetles in flight, laying an egg on the beetle's back under the elytra where the beetle cannot reach it. The egg hatches and the fly larva enters the body cavity of the beetle, feeding and eventually killing the host before pupating. In the United States, some species of Pyrgota and Sphecomyiella can be quite common in areas where their host beetles are abundant. Like their host beetles, these flies are primarily nocturnal, and are often attracted to artificial lights.
Platycheirus is a large genus of hoverflies. They are also called sedgesitters.
Dactylolabis is a genus of crane flies in the family Limoniidae. It is placed in its own subfamily, Dactylolabinae. Dactylolabis contains the following species:
Dicranomyia is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae. Larvae are mostly aquatic or semi-aquatic, with an exception found in a single Hawaiian Islands species which has a leaf-mining larva.
Elephantomyia is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Ellipteroides is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Erioptera is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Geranomyia is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Helius is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Hexatoma is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Rhipidia is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Teucholabis is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae.
Toxorhina is a genus of crane fly in the family Limoniidae. It can be distinguished among other crane flies by the reduced number of veins in the wings, among other less apparent differences.
Ischnotoma is a genus of true crane fly.
Leptotarsus is a genus of true crane fly.
Tipulinae is a subfamily of crane flies. It contains the typical crane flies from the genus Tipula.
Ocyptamus is a large and diverse genus of over 200 species of hoverfly mostly found in the Neotropical region. It is likely that many of these species will be discovered to be synonyms though many others await description.
