Papuengraulis micropinna, the littlefin anchovy, is a species of marine/brackish water anchovy that is only found in the Gulf of Papua, the mouths of rivers that drain into it and the Arafura Sea. It is the only species in its genus.

Bryde's whale, or the Bryde's whale complex, putatively comprises three species of rorqual and maybe four. Rice's whale, which makes its home solely in the Gulf of Mexico, was once considered a distinct population of Bryde's whale, but in 2021 it was described as a separate species.
