Paraverrucosa is a genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão in 1939 to contain the type species, Paraverrucosa neglecta . [2] Each of the four species have been moved around between Wagneriana , Edricus , and Verrucosa , but were all moved to this genus in 2020. [3]
As of April 2024 [update] it contains four species: [1]
Formerly included:
Aphantochilus is a genus of ant-mimicking crab spiders that was first described by Octavius Pickard-Cambridge in 1871. As of June 2020 it contains three species, found in Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina, and Panama: A. cambridgei, A. inermipes, and A. rogersi. It is a senior synonym of Cryptoceroides.
Micrathena, known as spiny orbweavers, is a genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by Carl Jakob Sundevall in 1833. Micrathena contains more than a hundred species, most of them Neotropical woodland-dwelling species. The name is derived from the Greek "micro", meaning "small", and the goddess Athena.
Bertrana is a genus of Central and South American orb-weaver spiders first described by Eugen von Keyserling in 1884. It includes some of the smallest known araneid orb-weavers. Bertrana striolata females are 4.5 mm long or less. The eight eyes are in two rows. The abdomen is white on top and on the sides, with multiple hieroglyphic-like lines and bars of many different shapes and length. In females, these are red, in males, black.
Diplura is a genus of South American curtain web spiders that was first described by C. L. Koch in 1850. It is found in South America and Cuba belonging to the subfamily Diplurinae. They possess a lyra on their prolateral maxillae. Diplura species can be distinguished from Trechona sp. by the number of setae on this lyra. They differ from Harmonicon sp. by the leg formula and the shape of the lyra bristles.
Kaira, sometimes called frilled orbweavers, is a mostly neotropical genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by O. Pickard-Cambridge in 1889. It includes sixteen described species that occur from South America up to the southern and eastern USA. It is presumably related to Aculepeira, Amazonepeira and Metepeira.
Dolichognatha is a genus of tropical and subtropical long-jawed orb-weavers that was first described by Octavius Pickard-Cambridge in 1869. Originally placed with the Archaeidae, it was transferred to the Araneidae in 1967, and to the Tetragnathidae in 1981.
Acacesia is a genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by Eugène Simon in 1895. It contains six species with a mostly neotropical distribution, ranging from South America to Mexico. One species, A. hamata, is found in the US as well.
Mastophora, also known as bolas spiders, is a genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by E. L. Holmberg in 1876. They can be identified by a pair of lumps on the dorsal surface of the opisthosoma, though not all males will have these lumps.
Wulfilopsis is a genus of South American anyphaenid sac spiders first described by B. A. M. Soares & Hélio Ferraz de Almeida Camargo in 1955.
Attacobius is a genus of South American corinnid sac spiders first described by Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão in 1925.
Dubiepeira is a genus of South American orb-weaver spiders first described by Herbert Walter Levi in 1991.
Kapogea is a genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by Herbert Walter Levi in 1997.
Wagneriana is a genus of orb-weaver spiders first described by F. O. Pickard-Cambridge in 1904.
Sampaiosia is a monotypic genus of Brazilian huntsman spiders containing the single species, Sampaiosia crulsi. It was first described by Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão in 1930, and is found in Brazil.
Acentroscelus is a genus of South American crab spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1886. It is a senior synonym of Whittickius.
Epicadus is a genus of crab spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1895. It is considered a senior synonym of Tobias.
Erissus is a genus of South American crab spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1895.
Dipoena santacatarinae is a species of araneomorphae spider in the family Theridiidae.
Popperaneus is a small genus of South American orb-weaver spiders first described by J. Cabra-García and Gustavo Hormiga in 2020. As of November 2021 it contains only two species, both transferred from Wagneria: P. gavensis and P. iguape.
Kryptochroma is a genus of South American bark-dwelling crab spiders erected by M. Machado, R. Viecelli, and C. Guzati in 2021 after a phylogenetic analysis showed that Stephanopis contained two distinctly different clades. The genus was created for the "pentacantha" clade, as well as for several newly described species.
