Peter Malcolm Black CBE (born 30 January 1960) is a Welsh Liberal Democrat politician,and was a Member of the Welsh Assembly for the South Wales West Region between 1999 and 2016.
A Councillor for the Cwmbwrla ward on City and County of Swansea Council,he was leader of the Liberal Democrat Group 1984–99. He is a past chair of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and of the party's Finance and Administration Committee.
Black fought Swansea East at the Assembly elections in 1999 and 2003, [1] but entered the Assembly as the lead candidate on the Welsh Liberal Democrat regional list for South Wales West. He was the lead candidate again in 2007 and 2011. A former deputy minister in the 2000–03 Labour / Welsh Liberal Democrat coalition administration,he chaired the Education,Lifelong Learning and Skills Committee in the second Assembly and then sat on the Communities,Equality and Local Government Committee and the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Assembly Commission with responsibility for ICT and Sustainability.
In November 2011 he took the lead alongside Welsh Liberal Democrats Leader,Kirsty Williams in negotiating an agreement with Labour on the Welsh Government's budget. [2] As a result,the Government introduced a Pupil Deprivation Grant,guaranteeing Welsh schools an extra £450 for each pupil in receipt of free school meals.
In 2013 he led for the Liberal Democrats on the negotiations for the Assembly budget alongside Plaid Cymru,securing a £100 million package including a doubling of the Pupil Deprivation Grant to £918 per pupil,a £50m intermediate health fund,£9.5m for investment in innovation in the health service and £5.5m for supporting people budgets.
He also steered the Welsh Assembly's first private member's bill to the statute book under its new powers. The Mobile Homes (Wales) Act 2013 received Royal Assent in November 2013,introducing a modern licensing regime for Park Homes sites in Wales.
On 10 December 2013 he was selected as the ITV Wales Yearbook Assembly Member of the year. In May 2016 Black lost his Welsh Assembly seat in the Welsh General Election. [3]
After his election defeat he became the Welsh Liberal Democrats Spokesperson for Local Government,Heritage and Housing. [4]
He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2017 Birthday Honours. [5]

Michael James German,Baron German is a Welsh politician who was Deputy First Minister of Wales from 2000 to 2001 and 2002 to 2003 and Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2008 and overhaul Welsh Party leader between 2007 and 2008. The first-ever deputy first minister of Wales,he was also Minister for Economic Development from 2000 to 2001 and Minister for Rural Affairs and Wales Abroad from 2002 to 2003. He was elected to the National Assembly for Wales in 1999 where he was Assembly Member (AM) for South Wales East until 2010 and led his party group until 2008. In 2010,he was granted a life peerage and has since served in the House of Lords as a working peer for the Liberal Democrats. Ideologically,he is on the more liberal wing of his party.
Jennifer Elizabeth Randerson,Baroness Randerson is a Welsh Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords. She is a former junior minister in the Wales Office serving in the Cameron–Clegg coalition. She previously served as the Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats from December 2008 to May 2016 and subsequently from June 2017 to November 2017 in an acting capacity.

The 2016 National Assembly for Wales election was held on Thursday 5 May 2016,to elect members (AMs) of the National Assembly for Wales,now known as the Senedd. It was the fifth election for the National Assembly,the third election taken under the rules of the Government of Wales Act 2006 and the first since the Wales Act 2014.
The 2021 Senedd election took place on Thursday 6 May 2021 to elect 60 members to the Senedd. It was the sixth devolved general election since the Senedd was established in 1999. The election was held alongside the Scottish Parliament election,English local elections,London Assembly and mayoral election and the Hartlepool by-election.
The 2017 Welsh local elections were held on 4 May 2017 to elect members of all 22 local authorities in Wales. This included the Isle of Anglesey,which was previously up for election in 2013 due to having its elections delayed for a year. Community council elections also took place on the same day. These local elections were held as part of the 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. Apart from Anglesey,the last elections were held in 2012. Normally these elections take place every four years,but the 2017 elections were postponed for a year in order to avoid clashing with the 2016 Welsh Assembly election,which itself had been postponed by a year to avoid clashing with the 2015 general election.
Jane Winifred Dodds is a Welsh politician who has served as Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats since 2017. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire at the seat's 2019 by-election,but was an MP for only three months before being defeated in the general election later the same year. In May 2021,Dodds was elected to the Senedd on the Mid and West Wales list. She is the only Liberal Democrat MS in the Senedd.
Mike German,the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrat Group in the National Assembly for Wales,formed his second frontbench team of party spokespeople on 8 May 2003 after the dissolution of his party's coalition government with Rhodri Morgan's Welsh Labour following the 2003 National Assembly for Wales election. Richards had already formed a frontbench team before entering coalition,when his party became an opposition party after the 1999 National Assembly for Wales election before forming the coalition with Labour in October 2000.
Kirsty Williams,the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats,formed her frontbench team of party spokespeople in the National Assembly for Wales on 11 December 2008 after she was elected to succeed Mike German as party leader on 8 December. She reshuffled her frontbench team after the 2011 National Assembly for Wales election before her party's seat share was reduced from five to one at the 2016 National Assembly for Wales election,with Williams becoming the party's sole assembly member (AM).
