Philip Raphael Soussan (born 23 June 1961) is a British bass guitarist, songwriter and producer, known as a member of Last in Line, Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Neil Band and Big Noize, as well as writing and producing for Dokken and Toto.

Career

With Ozzy Osbourne, he played on the 1986 album The Ultimate Sin and co-wrote the hit single "Shot in the Dark". [1]

Soussan initially played with Vince Neil in the fictional band Black Plague, the band formed for the movie The Adventures of Ford Fairlane with Andrew Dice Clay subsequently being asked to write songs, put together a band and ultimately record songs for what would become the new Vince Neil Band. [2] These songs became the basis of the band's first official album Exposed released in 1993. [3]

As a songwriter he has contributed to all of the bands that he has been with, most notably writing Exposed , the first solo album for Vince Neil, [4] the Luke album for Steve Lukather [5] and "After You're Gone" the opening track to Mindfields the album from Toto. [6]

As a producer and mixer and has worked on many projects including some by Dokken (the "Live from the Sun" CD and surround sound DVD) and various Toto tracks and recordings.

In 2006, he released his highly acclaimed debut solo album entitled Vibrate featuring him singing and playing guitar and bass on original material [7] following it up in 2011 with his second solo album; No Protection Both albums feature songs that have been included in several feature films. [8]

He was a member of the supergroup Big Noize featuring alongside singer Joe Lynn Turner, guitarist Carlos Cavazo, and drummer Vinny Appice. [9] The group has since included keyboardists Gary Corbett and Teddy Andreadis, [10] drummer Simon Wright, [11] guitarist George Lynch and singer Sebastian Bach. [12]

Soussan has been featured in several films; as part of the band Black Plague in The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, [2] as himself in Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World [13] and "The Life Blood and Rhythm of Randy Castillo". [14]

Outside of the immediate music scene, Soussan became elected to the Grammys, also known as NARAS, as a Board Member in 2007. [15] In 2008, Soussan became Chairman of the Advocacy committee and in 2011 he was elected to the prestigious position of Vice President of the Grammys, in the Los Angeles chapter. a position that he held for two full terms. [16]

After organizing the MusicCares grass roots "Giving 2010" benefit funding event funding he performed on 3 May 2010, [17] For this Soussan formed the cover band "Carnival of Dogs" with Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver, Camp Freddy, formerly of Guns N' Roses and The Cult), Franky Perez (Solo, Scars on Broadway, DKFXP) and Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns, formerly of Brides of Destruction). [18] John Waite also made a guest vocal appearance.

Between 2016 and 2019, Soussan regularly appeared as a featured artist in the Raiding the Rock Vault musical show in Las Vegas. [19]

In 2016, Soussan joined Last in Line, the band formed by former members of Dio, following the death of original bassist Jimmy Bain. [20] He wrote, performed and contributed to the follow up II album [21] and their third album Jericho. [22]

In 2017, Soussan was inducted into the RockGodz Hall of Fame. [23]

Lee, the first to feature drummer Randy Castillo, and the only album to feature bassist Phil Soussan, who co-wrote the album's hit single "Shot in the Dark".

Beggars & Thieves is a hard rock band formed in 1989 in New York City, in the tail end of the glam metal era. It was originally formed by Louie Merlino on vocals and Ron Mancuso on guitars, and featured bassist Phil Soussan, who had played for Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bobby Borg, who later played for Warrant.

Randolpho Francisco Castillo was an American musician. He was Ozzy Osbourne's drummer during the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, and later as drummer for Mötley Crüe, from 1999 to his death in 2002.

The official music video for the song was directed by Andy Morahan, and was played in power rotation on MTV.
