Philip Raphael Soussan (born 23 June 1961) is an English bass guitarist, songwriter and producer, known as a member of Last in Line, Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Neil Band and Big Noize, as well as writing and producing for Dokken and Toto.
With Ozzy Osbourne, Soussan played on the 1986 album The Ultimate Sin and co-wrote the hit single "Shot in the Dark". [1] He toured with Ozzy through the entire "Ultimate Sin" tour.
After leaving Ozzy in 1988 he accepted in invitation to be included in a new band for Billy Idol. He is featured on the "Charmed Life" album.
Soussan initially played with Vince Neil in the fictional band Black Plague, formed for the movie The Adventures of Ford Fairlane with Andrew Dice Clay; subsequently he was asked by Vince and his manager at the time, Bruce Bird, to write songs, put together a band and ultimately record songs for what would become the new Vince Neil Band. [2] These songs became the basis of the band's first official album Exposed released in 1993.[ citation needed ]
As a songwriter Soussan has contributed to all of the bands that he has been with, most notably co-writing five of the eleven songs on Exposed - the first solo album for Vince Neil following his departure from Mötley Crüe, [3] co-writing half of the solo Luke album for Steve Lukather [4] and co-writing "After You're Gone", the opening track to the Toto [5] album Mindfields.
As a producer and mixer, Soussan has worked on many projects including Dokken's "Live from the Sun" CD and surround sound DVD, various Toto tracks and recordings as well as productions and recordings for many other artists and bands.
In 2006, Soussan released his debut solo album, Vibrate, featuring him singing and playing both guitar and bass on original material. [6] His second solo album, No Protection, followed in 2011 with Soussan playing predominantly all instuments. Songs from both albums have been included in feature films. [7]
Soussan was a member of the supergroup Big Noize along with singer Joe Lynn Turner, guitarist Carlos Cavazo, and drummer Vinny Appice. [8] The group has since included keyboardists Gary Corbett and Teddy Andreadis, [9] drummer Simon Wright, [10] guitarist George Lynch and singer Sebastian Bach. [11]
Soussan has had roles in several films; as part of the band Black Plague in The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, [2] as himself in Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World [12] and The Life Blood and Rhythm of Randy Castillo. [13]
Outside of the immediate music scene, Soussan became elected to the Grammys, also known as NARAS, as a Board Member in 2007. [14] In 2008, Soussan became Chairman of the Advocacy committee and in 2011 he was elected Vice President of the Grammys in the Los Angeles chapter, a position he held for two full terms. [15]
After organizing the MusicCares grass roots "Giving 2010" benefit funding event funding he performed on 3 May 2010, [16] For this Soussan formed the cover band "Carnival of Dogs" with Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver, Camp Freddy, formerly of Guns N' Roses and The Cult), Franky Perez (Solo, Scars on Broadway, DKFXP) and Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns, formerly of Brides of Destruction). [17] John Waite also made a guest vocal appearance.
Between 2016 and 2019, Soussan regularly appeared as a featured artist in the Raiding the Rock Vault musical show in Las Vegas. [18]
In 2016, Soussan joined Last in Line, a band formed by former members of Dio, following the death of original bassist Jimmy Bain. [19] He wrote, performed and contributed to the follow up II album [20] as well as the third album Jericho. [21]
In 2017, Soussan was inducted into the RockGodz Hall of Fame. [22]
Black Sabbath were an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler, and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. They are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music. The band helped define the genre with their first three albums Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality (1971). Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the band underwent multiple line-up changes, with Iommi being the only constant member throughout its history.

Jake E. Lee is an American musician best known as lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne between 1982 and 1987 and later as a member of the heavy metal band Badlands with Ray Gillen. He formed the band Red Dragon Cartel in 2013, and their debut album released in January 2014 entered the Billboard Album Chart at number 69. He has also recorded solo works under his own name—examples being the instrumental album A Fine Pink Mist (1996) and cover album Retraced (2005).
Matthew William Sorum is an American drummer. He is best known as both a former member of the hard rock band Guns N' Roses, with whom he recorded three studio albums, and as a member of the supergroup Velvet Revolver. Sorum is currently on tour with Billy Gibbons, with whom he also records, is a member of the touring project Kings of Chaos, and is a former member of both The Cult and Y Kant Tori Read. Sorum was also a member of Guns N' Roses side projects, Slash's Snakepit and Neurotic Outsiders, and has released two solo albums, Hollywood Zen (2004) and Stratosphere (2014). Guns, as well as the supergroups Brides of Destruction and Contraband. He was also a founding member of Guns N' Roses, but left shortly afterwards and was replaced by guitarist Slash.

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane is a 1990 American mystery action comedy film directed by Renny Harlin and written by David Arnott, James Cappe, and Daniel Waters based on a story by Arnott and Cappe. The film stars comedian Andrew Dice Clay as the title character, Ford Fairlane, a "Rock n' Roll Detective", whose beat is the music industry in Los Angeles. True to his name, Fairlane drives a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner in the film.
"Shot in the Dark" is a song recorded and performed by English heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. It is the ninth and final track on his 1986 album The Ultimate Sin. A top-ten hit on mainstream rock radio, the song also became his first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 68. The official music video for the song was directed by Andy Morahan, and was played in power rotation on MTV.
Franky Perez is an American musician best known as a solo artist, touring vocalist of the Finnish metal band Apocalyptica, and as former guitarist for Scars on Broadway. He has also released three solo albums, Poor Man's Son, My 4th of July, and Addict, and performed with guitarist Slash in his live band before Slash assembled the touring band that backed him during his first full solo tour with Myles Kennedy. Perez has also collaborated with Slash's Velvet Revolver bandmate Dave Kushner, releasing songs under the pseudonym of DKFXP, as well as the virtual band Pusher Jones, contributing the song "Count Me Out" to The Avengers soundtrack.
Last in Line is a British rock band formed in 2012 by former members of Dio's original lineup. Their name comes from the 1984 Dio album, The Last in Line. Following the death of frontman Ronnie James Dio in 2010, drummer Vinny Appice, bassist Jimmy Bain, guitarist Vivian Campbell and keyboardist Claude Schnell reunited and added vocalist Andrew Freeman to perform the Dio songs they originally recorded. They released three studio albums of original material without Schnell between February 2016 and March 2023.
