Poolstock is a road, the name of which is used to describe the surrounding residential area of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England.

Poolstock, although it has no specific boundaries, is south of the River Douglas and is situated next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and close to Wigan Pier and Wigan town centre which is in walking distance. Situated close to Trenchfield Mill, Poolstock was a perfect place for Millworkers to live.

Sport

The Poolstock Stadium [1] hosted greyhound racing from 1932 to 1973 and speedway from 1947 to 1960 on Park Street. Laurel and Hardy made a personal appearance at a speedway meeting in 1947. [2] The stadium was demolished in 1973. [3]

The Boulevard (stadium)

The Boulevard was a multi-purpose stadium in Hull, England. The venue was saved from demolition and reopened on 25 October 2007 as the home of greyhound racing in the city. There were plans for it to be used as a community stadium hosting rugby league matches and speedway, but it eventually closed and was demolished in August 2010.

The Athletic Grounds was a stadium in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. It was the home of Rochdale Hornets Rugby League Football Club for over 90 years until 1988. It has also been used for speedway, BriSCA F1 Stock Cars and greyhound racing.

Loomer Road Stadium is a former sports stadium situated in Chesterton, Staffordshire. The building had considerable parking facilities, covered terracing and a bar with a view of the track. It had a capacity of 5,000. The stadium was constructed in the early 1970s and hosted greyhound racing until 2003, and speedway and stock cars until its closure at the end of the 2019 season.
