Port Sunlight River Park is a river park on the shore of the river Mersey at Port Sunlight, Merseyside, England. [1] [2] [3]
The park was formerly a landfill site at Bromborough Dock that was turned into a nature park during a £2.3 million conversion. Now known as Port Sunlight River Park, it opened in summer 2014. The park provides visitors with a number of distinct experiences including a freshwater lake which is rich in wildlife, new habitats, a scenic waterfront, a perimeter walk, a link to Shorefields Nature Park, and paths to the summit with views of the River Mersey estuary and Liverpool skyline.
The park has footpaths for use by walkers, joggers and ramblers. The park is 37m above the river level allowing unrivalled views of Liverpool. [4]
The park is intended to provide a natural habitat for wildlife, plants and birds.
Gas from the landfill is extracted via a series of pipes and taken to a nearby power plant and converted to electricity. [5]

Leasowe Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse in Moreton on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, England. The lighthouse was built in 1763 by The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company to guide shipping safely to the Port of Liverpool and is the oldest lighthouse built from bricks in the United Kingdom. The lighthouse became obsolete and was closed in 1908. The last lighthouse keeper was a Mrs. Williams, the only known female lighthouse keeper of the period.

Sale Water Park is a 152-acre (62 ha) area of parkland including a 52-acre (21 ha) artificial lake in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, England. Opened in 1979 and owned by Trafford Council, the water park lies in an area of the green belt running through the Mersey river valley between Sale and Stretford, located between the river and the M60 motorway. The lake was formed in the 1970s by the flooding of a gravel pit excavated to provide material for the construction of an embankment raising the motorway 34 feet (10 m) above the Mersey's floodplain. The pit was excavated to a depth of around 115 feet (35 m), making the lake about 90 feet (27 m) deep in places.
The World Birding Center is the official title given to a combined nine parks and nature preserves in the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas managed by a partnership of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the local communities in which the parks reside. The stated mission of the World Birding Center is to "protect native habitat while increasing the understanding and appreciation of the birds and wildlife", with an additional emphasis on promoting local economic development through ecotourism.
Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area is a public park and nature reserve between the Columbia Slough and the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon. At about 2,000 acres (810 ha), it is one of the largest urban freshwater wetlands in the United States. Metro, the regional government for the Oregon part of the Portland metropolitan area, manages the park. A covered shelter, restrooms, a paved walkway, and a canoe launch lie on the north side of the natural area.

Moore Nature Reserve is a nature reserve in the village of Moore in Halton, Cheshire, England. Created from an area which had included a sand quarry and farmland, and run by FCC Environment who operate the nearby Arpley landfill site, the reserve covers 200 acres (81 ha) and is considered one of the best places in Cheshire for birdwatching.
New Ferry Butterfly Park is a 2-hectare (4.9-acre) urban nature reserve in New Ferry, on the Wirral Peninsula, England. It is managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
The Mersey Barrage is a proposed scheme for building a tidal barrage across the Mersey Estuary. In December 2022, the Liverpool City Region mayor announced cooperation between the City Region and K-water of South Korea, who built and operates the Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station, in order to construct a similar operation on the River Mersey.
