Description

Pristimantis ridens are small frogs, with males growing to 19 mm (0.75 in) and females to 25 mm (0.98 in) in snout–vent length. The dorsal skin is smooth and pale brown or yellow in colour, with some pink undertones. There is often a slightly darker W-shaped patch just behind the head. Individuals may have a single or two, parallel dorsolateral stripes. The thighs are barred. The ventral colouration is yellow with some dark specks. [4]

Pristimantis ridens can be very similar to Pristimantis cruentus . [5]

Habitat and conservation

The species' natural habitats are humid lowland and montane forests to about 1,600 m (5,200 ft) above sea level. [1] [4] It also occurs disturbed habitats such as degraded secondary vegetation, plantations, rural gardens, and urban areas. [1]

It is found in Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama from sea level to 1,300 m (4,300 ft) asl. Its natural habitats are humid lowland and montane forests. Craugastor chrysozetetes is a possibly extinct species of frog in the family Craugastoridae. It is endemic to Honduras where it is only known from near its type locality on the Cerro Búfalo, Cordillera de Nombre de Dios, at the edge of the Pico Bonito National Park. Common name McCranie's robber frog has been coined for this species. However, James McCranie himself has argued that this name "should be rejected in favor of a name associated with the type locality instead of a name tied to one of the three authors who named this species".
