Rajbiraj Airport( IATA : RJB, ICAO : VNRB) is a domestic airport located in Rajbiraj [1] serving Saptari District, a district in Madhesh Province in Nepal. [3] [4]
After eleven years of complete shut down, the airport resumed its operations on 23 May 2018. [5] The airport is used by Local Residents as well as Tourists who come to visit Koshi Barrage, Kishi Tappu Wildlife reserve and also as transit airport to go to nearby towns in India.[ citation needed ]
Following the days after its official inauguration in 1959 by the then transport minister Ganesh Man Singh, the airport was closed down due to inadequate infrastructures and runway safety measures. Several subsequent attempts were made later on to restore flight services but were all disrupted, mainly due to the lack of a blacktopped runway. The airport finally halted all the flights from 2007. [5]
In 2015–16, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal allocated a budget of Nepali Rupees 303 million for an upgradation of the airport. [6] [7] The airport upgradation project was awarded to a joint venture company in October 2016 with the completion deadline of November 2017, which was extended for 5 months. The inaugural flight after the renovation was Shree Airlines flight on 23 May 2018 while the regular flight started from 25 June 2018. [8] The Airport has since then been one of the very successful.
The airport resides at an elevation of 250 feet (76 m) above mean sea level. Since the renovation of the airport in 2018, the airport has one asphalt runway which is 1,500 metres (4,921 ft) in length. [5] There is a good hotel by name of S K Airport Hotel nearby which is a popular restaurant for people of Rajbiraj

Siraha had a population of 28,442 according to the census of 2011. and a population of 82,531 as of 2015. The current population of Siraha municipality as of census 2022, is 96,543. The Koshi Barrage is a sluice across the Koshi river that carries vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic between Saptari district and Sunsari district of Nepal. It is near the International border with India. It was built between 1958 and 1962 and has 56 gates. It was constructed after the Koshi Agreement was signed between the Government of Nepal and India on April 25, 1954. The barrage was designed and built by Joseph and Company Limited, India. The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is roughly 3–4 miles north of the barrage.

Bhimnagar is a village in Basantpur tehsil of Supaul district in the Indian state of Bihar, south of the Koshi Barrage, near the India-Nepal border. Kankalini Temple is a temple and Shakti Peethas in Eastern Nepal in Bhardaha VDC, Saptari, 19 km east of district headquarter Rajbiraj and near the Indian border at Birpur. It draws Nepali and Indian pilgrims, especially during Dashain when thousands of goats and Rangaa sacrificed there. The temple is near Mahendra Highway Bhardah section. It is famous temple of bhardaha.
US-Bangla Airlines Flight 211 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, that crashed on 12 March 2018 while landing, killing 51 of the 71 people aboard. The aircraft, a 76-seat Bombardier Q400 operated by US-Bangla Airlines, burst into flames after the crash. The 20 surviving passengers were seriously injured from the impact and the fire. It remains the deadliest aviation disaster involving a Bangladeshi airline, and the deadliest incident involving the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400.

Thadi or Thadi Viswaspatti is a very old border town and a market place of Nepal in Siraha District bordering Indian town of Laukaha. It is currently part of Bhagwanpur Rural municipality. It is located nearly 370 kilometers or 107 miles east of the capital, Kathmandu. Thadi was part of Tirhut Rulers of Simraungarh. The region was under rule of Karnad Dynasty formed by Nanyadeva Thadi is one of the few towns which is a part of agreed route for Mutual Trade between India and Nepal. Nepal Government has set up a dedicated customs office in the town.
