Upton County, Texas County in the United States

Upton County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,355. Its county seat is Rankin. The county was created in 1887 and later organized in 1910. It is named for two brothers: John C. and William F. Upton, both colonels in the Confederate Army.

Rankin is an unincorporated community in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 12 in the 2000 census. It was named for Frederick Harrison Rankin, who had settled on nearby Chambers Creek before 1874. [1]

This was the twenty-second federal census and was at the time the largest civilly administered peacetime effort in the United States.

Geography

Rankin is located at 32°12′41″N96°42′24″W / 32.21139°N 96.70667°W / 32.21139; -96.70667 (32.211494, -96.706638). [2] It is approximately 15 miles southeast of Waxahachie on FM 984 near Gorman Rd.
