Red River Cooperative Limited, branded as Red River Co-op, is a retail cooperative. A member of Federated Co-operatives, it operates in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. [3]
As of 2022 it operates nine Red River Co-op supermarkets, including five in Winnipeg and one each in Gimli, Stonewall, Lorette, and Selkirk. [4] It also operates gas bars and convenience stores throughout the Winnipeg Capital Region and surrounding areas, as well as Northwestern Ontario.
In 1948 Red River Co-op opened their first food stores in Winnipeg. [5]
In 1983 due to poor financial performance they ceased food store operations focusing on their gas bar operations. [5]
In 2014, when Sobeys acquired Safeway they were forced to sell 23 locations by the federal Competition Bureau. Federated Co-operatives acquired 4 locations in Winnipeg and transferred ownership to Red River Co-op. This marked the resumption of food store operations. [5]

Somerfield (;) was a chain of small to medium-sized supermarkets operating in the United Kingdom. The business started life in the 19th century as grocers J. H. Mills, and after a series of buyouts and mergers, the company became known as Gateway. A major rebranding to the created Somerfield brand started in 1990, and in 1998 the company purchased the Kwik Save chain of discount food stores. The company was taken over by the Co-operative Group on 2 March 2009 in a £1.57 billion deal, creating the UK's fifth-largest food retailer. PCC Community Markets is a food cooperative based in Seattle, Washington. With over 114,000 members, it is the largest consumer-owned food cooperative in the United States. Both members and non-members may shop at the retail locations, but members receive certain discounts. The organization currently operates fifteen retail locations. Eight of the fifteen stores are located in Seattle. The West Seattle location reopened on October 2, 2019. The other seven are located in Issaquah, Kirkland, Burien, Bothell, Redmond, Edmonds and Bellevue.

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), operating as Co-op, is a co-operative federation providing procurement and distribution to member co-operatives in Western Canada. It was established in 1944 after a series of amalgamations of smaller cooperatives, starting in Saskatchewan, including the Saskatchewan Co-operative Wholesale Society and a fuel production and distribution co-op, the Consumers’ Co-operative Refinery Limited. Federated had expanded to Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia by 1970. Federated Co-operatives is owned by about 160 member co-operatives across the region. Some are large co-operatives, such as Saskatoon Co-op, while others are small co-ops based in small towns, such as Abernethy Co-op.
