Manos Hatzidakis Greek composer

Manos Hatzidakis was a Greek composer and theorist of Greek music. He was also one of the main proponents of the "Éntekhno" form of music . In 1960 he received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for his song Never on Sunday from the film of the same name.

The New York Rock & Roll Ensemble was a rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, whose music was described as "classical baroque rock". The group performed wearing classical musician's attire, white tie and tailcoat.

In 1993 the album was re-released with new lyrics in Greek, which were written by Nikos Gatsos and performed by Aliki Kagialoglou.

In 2005 an adaptation of the album by the Greek band Raining Pleasure was released.

Raining Pleasure Greek indie / rock band

Raining Pleasure is an indie/rock band originating from Patras, Greece, often credited with spearheading the newest wave of Greek bands with English lyrics. The band was formed in September 1990 under the name "Rest in Peace". A year after their formation the band started appearing live locally. In 1992, they changed their name to Raining Pleasure and started touring Greece. In 1994, the band self-recorded and released a demo of their work ; since then, most of its songs have been rerecorded and included in their studio albums. For two more years, the band continued touring Greece and, in 1996, had three of its songs released through Pop & Rock 's magazine compilation Dytiki Akti '96.

Maria-Anastasia (Marianna) Efstratiou is a Greek singer, connected on several occasions with the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1987, she appeared as a backing singer for the duo Bang. Efstratiou won the Greek national song contest in 1989, overcoming Greek superstar Anna Vissi, and represented Greece in Lausanne with To Diko Sou Asteri. The song was placed ninth. In 1996, ERT selected her to represent Greece again, this time with the song Emis forame to himona anixiatika, but the song could only manage 14th place in Oslo. Efstratiou sang a number of songs in the semi-finals of the Greek national contest in 1998, none of which won. She has worked with Mimmis Plessas and she also starred on stage on several occasions. She has published two records and a promo cd single. On her debut album there's her cover of "Twist in My Sobriety", originally sung by Tanita Tikaram. "Never on Sunday", also known by its original Greek title "Ta Pediá tou Pireá", is a popular song written by Manos Hatzidakis and first sung by Melina Mercouri in the film of same name, directed by Jules Dassin and starring Mercouri. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1960, a first for a foreign-language picture. The film score to the movie was first released on October 1, 1960 by United Artists Records. The song has since been recorded by numerous artists, and has gained various degrees of success throughout the world.
