But later in the same year, RIE released another notification announcing that it will not be conducting the Common Entrance Exam due to COVID-19 and will give admission to students based on the marks secured by them in the qualifying examination. When the candidates who had applied earlier demanded refund of the examination fee, RIE blatantly refused and said that "the examination fee, once paid, cannot be refunded".
Many candidates were disappointed as the examination fee was not refunded to them even though the exam itself was not conducted. The candidates also pointed out that other national level exams like JEE and NEET were conducted but RIE used COVID-19 as an excuse to not conduct the exam without refunding the examination fee.
