Rejang Lebong (Kabupaten Rejang Lebong) is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra. This regency originally included a much larger part of the inland part of the province, lying to the east of the watershed of the Barisan Mountains, but on 25 February 2003 it was divided in three, with districts in the northwest being split off to form a separate Lebong Regency, and districts in the south being similarly split off to form a new Kepahiang Regency.
The residual Rejang Lebong Regency now covers 1,550.28 km² and had a population of 246,787 at the 2010 Census [2] and 276,645 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 285,710 - comprising 145,667 males and 140,043 females. [1] The administrative centre of the Rejang Lebong Regency is the town of Curup. The Rejangese people are the most numerous ethnic group in Bengkulu Province, and inhabit the western half of the Regency, while the Lembak people inhabit the eastern half.
The Regency is divided into fifteen districts (Indonesian : kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and populations at the 2010 Census [2] and the 2020 Census, [3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2023. [1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of villages in each district (totaling 122 rural desa and 34 urban kelurahan), and its post codes.

The Curup urban area, together with the three districts to its north (Bermani Ulu, Bermani Ulu Raya and Selupu Rejang) comprise the western part of the regency, covering 611.20 km2 with a population of 199,318 in mid 2023, mainly the Rejong people. The remaining seven districts comprise the larger but less densely populated eastern part of the regency, covering 939.08 km2 with a population of 86,392 in mid 2023, primarily the Lembak people.
Bengkulu, historically known as Bencoolen, is a province of Indonesia. It is located on the southwest coast of Sumatra. It was formed on 18 November 1968 by separating out the area of the historic Bencoolen Residency from the province of South Sumatra under Law No. 9 of 1967 and was finalized by Government Regulation No. 20 of 1968. Spread over 20,130.21 km2, its area is comparable to the European country of Slovenia and it is bordered by the provinces of West Sumatra to the north, Jambi to the northeast, Lampung to the southeast, and South Sumatra to the east, and by the Indian Ocean to the northwest, south, southwest, and west.
Lubuklinggau, is a city in South Sumatra, Indonesia. It has an area of 401.50 km2 and had a population of 201,308 at the 2010 Census and 234,166 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 241,894. The city was formerly part of the Musi Rawas Regency from which it was separated on 21 June 2001.
North Bengkulu is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra. It originally covered much of the northern part of Bengkulu Province, but on 25 February 2003 the most northwesterly districts were split off to form a separate Mukomuko Regency, and on 24 June 2008 the most southeastern districts were likewise split off to create a new Central Bengkulu Regency.
South Bengkulu is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra. It originally comprised all of that part of Bengkulu Province situated to the southeast of the city of Bengkulu, but on 25 February 2003 this area was split into three parts, with the most southeastern districts split off to form a new Kaur Regency and the most northwestern districts split off to form a new Seluma Regency. The reduced South Bengkulu Regency now covers 1,219.91 km2, and had a population of 142,940 at the 2010 Census and 166,249 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 171,463 - comprising 87,297 males and 84,166 females. The regency's administrative centre is the coastal town of Manna.
Mukomuko is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra. It was originally part of the North Bengkulu Regency, but on 25 February 2003 that regency was split into two parts, the northwestern part created as a separate Mukomuko Regency. It covers a land area of 4,146.52 km2 and had a population of 155,753 at the 2010 census, which rose to 190,498 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 198,794 - comprising 102,576 males and 96,218 females. The administrative centre of the Mukomuko Regency is Mukomuko town.
Central Bengkulu Regency is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. It is located on the west coast of the island of Sumatra, and lies immediately to the north and the east of the adjacent city of Bengkulu. It was formed on 24 June 2008 by being split away from the neighbouring North Bengkulu Regency. It covers an area of 1,223.94 km2 and had a population of 98,333 at the 2010 census and 116,706 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 121,139 - comprising 62,078 males and 59,061 females. the administrative centre is at the town of Karang Tinggi.
West Nias Regency is a regency in North Sumatra province of Indonesia. The regency seat is located in the Lahomi district. It covers the western portion of Nias Island. The regency covers an area of 520.34 km2, and had a population of 81,807 at the 2010 census and 89,994 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 95,334. This regency was created on 29 October 2008 by Law Number 46 of 2008 from districts which had previously been part of Nias Regency.
Meranti Islands is an archipelago, most of which forms a regency (kabupaten) of Riau Province and lies off the eastern coast of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was created on 19 December 2008 by the separating of these large islands from the mainly mainland regency of Bengkalis. The regency comprises the islands of Tebing Tinggi, Rangsang, Padang, and Merbau, together with minor offshore islands, but does not include Bengkalis Island to the north, which is geographically part of the archipelago but remains within Bengkalis Regency. The principal town is Selat Panjang on Tebing Tinggi Island. The regency covers an area of 4,769.53 km2 and had a population of 176,290 at the 2010 Census and 206,116 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 211,611.
Merangin Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of Jambi Province on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was created on 4 October 1999 by the division of the former Sarolangun Bangko Regency into a new Sarolangun Regency in the east and this Merangin Regency in the west. The regency covers an area of 7,679.0 km2, and had a population of 333,206 at the 2010 census and 354,052 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 368,389 - comprising 187,026 males and 181,363 females. The administrative capital is the town of Bangko.
Kaur is the most southern regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the west coast of the island of Sumatra. It was created on 25 February 2003 from what were formerly the southeastern districts of the South Bengkulu Regency. It has an area of 2,365.00 km2 and had a population of 107,899 at the 2010 Census and 126,551 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 131,063 - comprising 67,389 males and 63,674 females. The regency seat is at the town of Bintuhan.
Lebong is an inland regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra. It lies on the eastern slopes of the Barisan Mountains, the main watershed of Sumatra, thus draining towards the island's east coast. It covers an area of 1,665.28 km2, and had a population of 97,091 at the 2010 Census and 106,293 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 110,347 - comprising 56,410 males and 53,937 females. Contrary to the popularly-held belief that the town of Muara Aman is the seat of the government of Lebong Regency, the regency's capital is actually located in neighboring Tubei District, where all the offices and judiciary institution are situated.
Seluma Regency is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the west coast of the island of Sumatra. It was created on 25 February 2003 from what were formerly the northwestern districts of the South Bengkulu Regency. The regency seat is at the town of Pasar Tais. It covers an area of 2,479.36 km2, and had a population of 173,507 at the 2010 Census and 207,877 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 215,063.
South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is an inland regency in the far south of South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. It was created on 18 December 2003 from what had previously been the southernmost districts of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. It covers an area of 5,493.94 km2, and had a population of 318,428 at the 2010 Census and 408,981 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 407,676. The administrative centre is the town of Muaradua. It borders Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency and Muara Enim Regency to the north. It also borders Lampung Province to the south and east and Bengkulu Province to the west.
North Lampung Regency is an inland regency (kabupaten) of Lampung Province, Sumatra, in Indonesia. As originally created, it covered a much larger share of the land area of Lampung Province, but on 16 August 1991 its western districts were split off to create a new West Lampung Regency ; on 3 January 1997 its north-eastern districts were split off to create a new Tulang Bawang Regency ; and on 20 April 1999 its north-western districts were split off to create a new Way Kanan Regency.
Mahakam Ulu Regency is a regency (kabupaten) in the province of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. As the name implies, it comprises the upper valley of the Mahakam River. It covers an area of 18,427.81 km2. The regency was established on 14 December 2012, formed from the former northern districts of West Kutai Regency. The districts now forming the regency held a combined population of 24,994 at the 2010 Census; the population for the new regency at the 2020 Census was 32,513; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 38,498. The administrative capital is at Ujoh Bilang, which had 3,527 inhabitants as at mid 2022. It is the only regency in East Kalimantan to share an international land border with the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
North Musi Rawas Regency is a regency of South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. It takes its name from the two main river which drain that area, Musi River and Rawas River. This regency was created on 10 June 2013 by splitting off the seven northernmost districts of Musi Rawas Regency.
Curup is a town and district of Rejang Lebong Regency, part of Bengkulu Province of Indonesia. It is also the administrative capital of the regency. Curup is the second-largest town in the province of Bengkulu. Curup District has an area of 6.21 km², consisting of nine Administrative villages, with 26,971 residents at the 2020 Census, rising to 27,017 in the official estimates as at mid 2021. However, the urban area of which Curup District is the centre - including also South Curup, North Curup, Central Curup, and East Curup Districts - covered 174.05 km² and had a mid 2021 population of 130,888.
Rejang people are an Austronesian ethnolinguistic group, native to the some parts of Bengkulu Province and South Sumatera Province in the southwestern part of Sumatera Island, Indonesia. They occupied some area in a cool mountain slopes of the Barisan mountain range in both sides of Bengkulu and South Sumatra. With approximately more than 1,3 million people, they form the largest ethnic group in Bengkulu Province. Rejang people predominantly live as a majority in 5 out 10 regencies and city of Bengkulu Province, while the rest of them who lives in South Sumatera resides at 7 villages in the district called as Bermani Ulu Rawas. The Rejangs are predominantly an Islam adherent group with small numbers following a religion other than Islam. According to research, Rejang people are the descendants of the Bukar-Sadong people who migrated from Northern Borneo (Sarawak).
Lembak people, also known as Linggau people, are a local ethnic group that inhabits several areas of Bengkulu Province and South Sumatra Province in Indonesia. Their original settlements are in the border area between the two provinces, in the Barisan mountain range, with densely clustered villages pattern.
