Rema is the eponymous debut extended play by Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter Rema. It was released on 22 March 2019 by Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. [1]

Background and release

In 2018, Rema posted a viral freestyle on Instagram to D'Prince's track "Gucci Gang". The post caught the attention of D'Prince who flew him to Lagos to offer a record deal. [2] [3] Rema signed a record deal with D'Prince's [4] Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019. [5] After the deal Rema released the 4-track eponymous Ep through Jonzing World on 22 March 2019.

On 21 May 2019, Jonzing World and Mavin's released the music video of the lead single "Dumebi" which was directed by Ademola Falomo and features a cameo appearance from Nigerian model Diana Eneje. [6]

Composition

The EP contains four tracks which was produced by Ozedikus.

"Iron Man" the first track is a Afrorave ballad with bollywood tunes about Rema's strength to protect his love interest. The second track, "Why", is a trap song which shows rema rapping and passing messages of heartbreak through the lyrics. The next track, "Dumebi", is a Afropop dance party song about his search for love and his view of his view of her attractive body. While the last track "Corny" is a pop song addressed to a love interest about his affirmation of love.

A review from Pulse Nigeria said the EP "excels on cohesion, a tracklist that enabled transcendence and segues, good production" but also criticized the initial meaning of the lyrics. [7]

The song was written by Magixx, and produced by Lomon. A new version of the song titled "Love Don't Cost a Dime (Re-Up)" featuring Nigerian singer Ayra Starr was released as a single in 2022.

Pandemic is the debut EP by Nigerian singer Ruger. It was released on 12 March 2021, through Jonzing World and Sony Music UK, and features no guest appearances. Production was handled by Kukbeatz.

Alexander Uwaifo known professionally as Andre Vibez is a Nigerian music producer and songwriter. He is best known for producing "Rush" from Ayra Starr's album 19 & Dangerous and Rema international hit single “Calm Down” which peaked at number one on the India IMI International chart and also peak no.3 on Billboard Hot 100. In September 2022, he was announced as one of the newly signed record producers of the Nigerian record label, Mavin Records.

The discography of Rema, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, consists of two studio albums, four EP, thirty singles, and 14 music videos. Rema started his music career at age 18. He signed with D'Prince's Jonzing World, an imprint of Don Jazzy's Mavin Records in 2019. His self-titled debut extended play was released in August of that year and peaked atop the Apple Music Nigeria charts.

<i>Ravage</i> (EP) 2023 EP by Rema

Ravage is the fourth EP by Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter Rema released on October 27, 2023, through Mavin Records and Jonzing World. Like his previous project, Rave & Roses (2022), the EP blends various genres, including alté, afrobeats, and afropop. Lyrically, it explores themes of hard work, pride, and diligence.

"Dumebi" is the debut single by Nigerian singer and rapper Rema. Produced by Ozedikus, the song became a sleeper hit. Its success spawned five remixes, including a version featuring American singer Becky G on February 13, 2020, and four additional remixes on March 22, 2020.
