Ronald 'Boris' Duncan CPhys (born 4 September 1962) is a former British alpine skier who competed on the annual FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit from 1981-1993, at four FIS Alpine World Ski Championships and at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. In 1980 and 1983, Duncan was the British men's downhill champion. [4] He was also the men's super-G champion in 1991 and men's combined champion in 1983 and 1991. [4] Duncan's best finish on the world cup circuit was in the downhill on 15 March 1990, when he finished in 13th place at Are in Sweden. [2] [5]
At the 1988 Winter Olympics, Duncan finished 37th in the men's downhill and 'did not finish' the men's combined. [1] In the 1992 Winter Olympics he finished 31st in the men's downhill, 40th in the men's super-G and 'did not finish' the men's combined. [1]
From 2002-04 Duncan was the chairman of the British Ski and Snowboard Federation, trading as Snowsport GB, the governing body for skiing and snowboarding in Great Britain. [6]
Duncan is the co-founder and chairman of @UK PLC. [7] [3] Previously, he ran a computer software consultancy. [7] In 2014 and 2015 he was shortlisted for Entrepreneur of the Year, at the Grant Thornton Quoted Company Awards. [8] [9] [10]
Winter sports or winter activities are competitive sports or non-competitive recreational activities which are played on snow or ice. Most are variations of skiing, ice skating and sledding. Traditionally, such games were only played in cold areas during winter, but artificial snow and artificial ice allow more flexibility. Playing areas and fields consist of either snow or ice.
Anja Sofia Tess Pärson is a Swedish former alpine skier. She is an Olympic gold medalist, seven-time gold medalist at the World Championships, and two-time overall Alpine Skiing World Cup champion. This included winning three gold medals in the 2007 World Championship in her native Sweden. She has won a total of 42 World Cup races.
Lasse Kjus is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Norway. He won the overall World Cup title twice, an Olympic gold medal, and several World Championships. His combined career total of 16 Olympic and World Championship medals ranks second all-time behind fellow Norwegian Kjetil André Aamodt.
Hartmann "Harti" Weirather is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Born in Reutte, Tyrol, he specialized in the downhill event.
Chimene Mary "Chemmy" Crawford-Alcott is an English former World Cup alpine ski racer. She competed in all five disciplines: downhill, super G, giant slalom, slalom and combined.
Theodore Sharp Ligety is a retired American alpine ski racer, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and an entrepreneur, having cofounded Shred Optics. Ligety won the combined event at the 2006 Olympics in Turin and the giant slalom race at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. He is also a five-time World Cup champion in giant slalom. Ligety won the gold medal in the giant slalom at the 2011 World Championships. He successfully defended his world title in giant slalom in 2013 in Schladming, Austria, where he also won an unexpected gold medal in the super-G and a third gold medal in the super combined.
The U.S. Ski Team, operating under the auspices of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, develops and supports men's and women's athletes in the sports of alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, cross-country, ski jumping, and Nordic combined. Since 1974 the team and association have been headquartered in Park City, Utah.
Steven Lee is an Australian alpine skier. He competed in the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics, and had a competitive career lasting just on 25 years. He is the second of only 3 Australian skiers ever to claim victory on the Alpine World Cup circuit. He has also done sports commentating for channels 7, 9 and 10, co-owns Chill Factor magazine, and is a national selector and president of Falls Creek Race Club. He has worked in movies with Roger Moore and Jackie Chan.
John Kucera is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Canada.
Ludwig Leitner was a German alpine ski racer and world champion, born in Mittelberg, Austria.
Kjetil Jansrud is a Norwegian former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic champion. He competed in all alpine disciplines apart from slalom, and his best event was the giant slalom where he has six World Cup podiums and an Olympic silver medal. Since 2012, he had concentrated on the speed events, where all but two of his World Cup victories had come. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won the super-G and placed third in the downhill. At the World Championships in 2019 at Åre, Jansrud won gold in the downhill.
Lotte Smiseth Sejersted is a former Norwegian alpine skier.
Edit Miklós is a Hungarian-Romanian former World Cup alpine ski racer, a specialist in the speed events of Downhill and Super-G. Since 2002, she has trained in Austria.
Maria Kirkova is a Bulgarian female skier. She was the flagbearer for Bulgaria and a competitor during the 2014 Winter Olympics and took part in the Alpine skiing events at all four Winter Olympics between 2006 and 2018 as well as the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2003 and six championship from 2007 to 2017.
The 47th World Cup season began on 27 October 2012, in Sölden, Austria, and concluded on 17 March 2013, at the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The overall titles were won by Marcel Hirscher of Austria and Tina Maze of Slovenia.
James Peter Patterson is a former World Cup alpine ski racer for the United States, from Sun Valley, Idaho. At the Winter Olympics, he finished thirteenth in the downhill in 1976 and fifth in 1980. At the time, it tied for the best finish by an American male in an Olympic downhill.
Marc Oliveras Gabarre is an alpine skier who competes for Andorra. He competed for Andorra at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2013 and 2015 and competed for Andorra at the 2014 Winter Olympics and in the 2015 Winter Universiade.
Ester Ledecká is a Czech snowboarder and alpine skier. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to not only compete in the Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment but to go further and win two gold medals and do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the second woman to win an Olympic gold in two separate disciplines but the first to do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the first Czech to win the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.
Jared Goldberg is an American World Cup alpine ski racer, a member of the U.S. Ski Team, and resident of Holladay, Utah.
Jack Gower is an Irish and British alpine ski racer. He competed for the UK at the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek, USA, in the giant slalom. Gower competed for Ireland at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
