Rosalyn Randolph Dance (born February 10,1948) is an American politician,who served in the Senate of Virginia from 2014 until 2020. She was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2005 to 2014,was mayor of Petersburg,Virginia from 1992 to 2004,and is the Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Virginia Department of Elections. Dance is a member of the Democratic Party. [1] [2]
Dance was one of 11 children. [3] She dropped out of high school,but went on to earn several higher degrees. [3]
Dance was elected to the Petersburg City Council in 1992. [3]
In 2001,the 63rd Virginia House of Delegates district incumbent,Democrat Jay DeBoer,retired after 18 years. Dance,then mayor of Petersburg,ran for the seat as an independent but lost to the Democratic nominee,funeral director Fenton Bland.
On January 25,2005,Bland pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of conspiracy to commit bank fraud;he resigned the 63rd district seat the next day. Dance received the Democratic nomination and was chosen to replace Bland in a special election on March 22. [4] The 63rd district is southeast of Richmond,made up of the city of Petersburg and part of Hopewell,plus parts of Chesterfield,Dinwiddie and Prince George Counties. Dance was reelected multiple times,the last in November 2013.
Dance served on the House committees on Appropriations,General Laws,Health,Welfare and Institutions,and Privileges and Elections. [1]
Dance served in the Senate of Virginia,where she represented District 16,having won a special election on November 4,2014,to fill the seat once held by Henry L. Marsh. [1]
In 2019,Dance sponsored a bill to gradually increase Virginia's minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $15 per hour by 2021. [5] Later that year,she ran for reelection to her state senate seat,but was defeated in the primary by disbarred attorney Joe Morrissey. [6] [7]

Virginia's ninth congressional district is a United States congressional district in the Commonwealth of Virginia,covering much of the southwestern part of the state. The 9th is Virginia's second-largest district in area,covering 9,113.87 square miles. It has been represented by Republican Morgan Griffith since 2011. He took office after defeating 14-term incumbent Democrat Rick Boucher. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of R+23,it is the most Republican district in Virginia.
Adam Paul Ebbin is an American politician who is the senator from the 39th District of the Virginia Senate since January 2024. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously represented the 39th Senate District from 2012 to 2024 and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from the 49th District from 2004 to 2012.

The 2019 Virginia Senate election was held on November 5,2019,concurrently with the House election,to elect members to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 161st Virginia General Assembly and the 162nd Virginia General Assembly. Primaries were held on June 11. The elections resulted in Democrats gaining 2 seats in the senate,and gaining control of both chambers of the General Assembly,marking the first time that Democrats held control of both legislative and executive branches in Virginia since 1993.
The 2023 Virginia Senate election was held on Tuesday,November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates,to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census. The Democrats retained control of the Senate.
The 2023 Virginia's 4th congressional district special election was a special election to the U.S. House of Representatives that was held to fill Virginia's 4th congressional district for the remainder of the 118th United States Congress. The seat became vacant after incumbent Democrat Donald McEachin died on November 28,2022,of colorectal cancer. State Senator Jennifer McClellan was declared the victor shortly after the polls closed,winning in a landslide against her Republican opponent.
