Route 6 (Chinese: 香港六號幹綫) is a partially open trunk route in Hong Kong, planned to be completed in its entirety in 2026. It is the newest trunk route to be numbered under the Strategic Route Number System. The section between Tseung Kwan O and Lam Tin consisting of the new Cross Bay Link and Tseung Kwan O–Lam Tin Tunnel opened to traffic on the 11th of December, 2022. This is the first and so far the only portion of Route 6 which is open. Its eastern terminus is at the Tseung Kwan O Interchange of the Cross Bay Link. Although not officially part of Route 6, the Cross Bay Link carries traffic further to its two eastern termini, one at Po Shun Road in Tseung Kwan O and the other at Wan O Road in LOHAS Park. The western terminus is the unfinished Lam Tin Interchange with the Eastern Harbour Crossing of Route 2 at Lam Tin.
When completed, it will continue from its current terminus at the Lam Tin Interchange through new underground tunnels. First, it will continue in an unnamed submarine tunnel towards the Kai Tak Development Area, intersecting with Route 5 on the way. It will then burrow across Kowloon as part of a new set of underground tunnels forming the Central Kowloon Route till a planned interchange with Route 3 at the West Kowloon Highway near Yau Ma Tei. It was marked as a high-priority trunk route in the Third Comprehensive Transport Study. [1]
The route, when completed, is expected to relieve the congestion problem in Kowloon. It has already fulfilled its secondary purpose to serve as an alternative route for the existing Tseung Kwan O Tunnel.

The Island line is one of eleven lines of the MTR, the mass transit system in Hong Kong. It runs from Kennedy Town in Western to Chai Wan in the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island, passing through the territory's major business districts of Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, and connecting them with built-up areas on the north shore of the island.
The Kwun Tong line is a heavy-rail rapid transit line of the MTR network in Hong Kong, coloured green on the MTR map. Starting at Whampoa in Hung Hom and ending at Tiu Keng Leng in Tseung Kwan O, Sai Kung, the route has 17 stations and takes 35 minutes to complete. The Kwun Tong line is one of the busiest railway lines on the network connecting the central and the eastern portions of Kowloon via Wong Tai Sin. The line is mostly underground, but includes a lengthy elevated section, and runs generally in an east-west direction. During the morning rush hour, the Kwun Tong line utilises 33 trains running at 2.1-minute-intervals to achieve a route capacity of 85,000 pphpd.
The Tseung Kwan O line is one of the eleven lines of the MTR system in Hong Kong, indicated by the colour purple. It is currently 12.3 kilometres (7.6 mi) long, taking 15 minutes to travel throughout the entire line.
Tseung Kwan O New Town is one of the nine new towns in Hong Kong, built mainly on reclaimed land in the northern half of Junk Bay in southeastern New Territories, after which it is named. The town/land area is usually known simply as Tseung Kwan O.
Tseung Kwan O Tunnel is a 900-metre tunnel beneath Ma Yau Tong in Hong Kong. The tunnel was opened on 9 November 1990. Part of Route 7, it links Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong, Kowloon and the Tseung Kwan O New Town, Sai Kung District, the New Territories. It was used by 80,385 vehicles daily in 2011.
Po Lam is the northern terminus MTR station of the Tseung Kwan O line. It is located on Mau Yip Road, Po Lam, in the New Territories of Hong Kong, sandwiched by Phases 1 to 3 of Metro City. Built by Maeda Corporation, it opened on 18 August 2002. The name of the station is taken from the nearby Po Lam Road North.
Tiu Keng Leng station is an MTR station located in Tiu Keng Leng. The station features cross-platform interchange between the Tseung Kwan O line and the Kwun Tong line, and serves as the eastern terminus of the Kwun Tong line. It is between Tseung Kwan O and Yau Tong stations on the Tseung Kwan O line, and proceeds to Yau Tong station on the Kwun Tong line. It is the only station on the Kwun Tong line located in the New Territories. The livery of the station is yellow-green.
Lam Tin is a station on the Hong Kong MTR Kwun Tong line built as a part of the extension to Quarry Bay. The station is linked to the nearby hillside community of Lam Tin by a series of escalators.
Yau Tong is a station on the Hong Kong MTR Kwun Tong line and the Tseung Kwan O line. It is the only station of the Tseung Kwan O line located in Kowloon. The livery of the station is yellow. Although the train platforms are constructed above ground level, they are sealed from the outside with concrete walls to prevent the noise of trains from disturbing the nearby residents of Yau Tong Estate.
The Eastern Harbour Crossing, abbreviated as "EHC", is a combined road-rail tunnel that crosses beneath Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong. Opened on 21 September 1989, it connects Quarry Bay, Hong Kong Island and Cha Kwo Ling, Kowloon East.
Lam Tin is an area in the Kwun Tong District in southeastern New Kowloon, Hong Kong. Lam Tin is primarily a residential area but also hosts a major transport interchange and several shopping attractions. Lam Tin was once a large field in the vicinity of Kowloon Bay. During the Song dynasty, it was a site of salt production. Since the 1980s, a number of housing estates were constructed in Lam Tin.
Route 2 of Hong Kong is a series of expressways that runs from Quarry Bay of Hong Kong Island to Ma Liu Shui of the New Territories East, formerly known as route 6, and renamed as route 2 in 2004 under the route numbering scheme proposed in the same year. The Kwun Tong Bypass is an elevated expressway between Lam Tin and Kowloon Bay in Kwun Tong District, Kowloon East, Hong Kong, with three lanes in each direction and a posted speed limit of 70–80 kilometres per hour (43–50 mph). It is part of Route 2 and has links to Route 5 and Route 7. It bypasses the industrial township of Kwun Tong and passes next to the boundary of the Kai Tak Airport.
The Hong Kong Strategic Route and Exit Number System is a system adopted by the Transport Department of the Hong Kong Government to organise the major roads in the territory into routes 1 to 10 for the convenience of drivers. When the system was implemented in 2004, the government promoted it with a major public campaign, including the slogan "Remember the Numbers; Make Driving Easier".
Several future projects on the MTR have been put forward by the MTR Corporation to the Hong Kong Government. Some of these are still in planning stage, some are now completed.
The Cross Bay Link is a 1.8 km (1.1 mi) dual two-lane carriageway connecting the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate and LOHAS Park areas in Tseung Kwan O New Town, New Territories, Hong Kong with Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel.
The Kai Tak Development, abbreviated as "KTD" and formerly called South East Kowloon Development (東南九龍發展計劃), refers to the redevelopment of the former Kai Tak Airport site in Kai Tak, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

The Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel is a tunnel in Hong Kong that is part of Route 6. Originally expected to open in 2021, its opening was delayed to 11 December 2022 due to the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19.
