Run Away is a British television miniseries made for streaming service Netflix, adapted from a novel by Harlan Coben. The series premiered on 1 January 2026 and it stars James Nesbitt, Alfred Enoch, Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, and Ellie de Lange.

Premise

A desperate father, Simon Greene (James Nesbitt), searching for his runaway daughter, Paige Greene (Ellie de Lange) gets caught up in a murder case and stumbles upon secrets that could destroy his family for good. [1]

Paige has been missing for six months. Her father, Simon, finds her in the park but she runs away from him. Simon and Paige’s boyfriend, Aaron, get in a physical fight. It is revealed that Paige was a heavy drug user. Later, Aaron ends up getting violently murdered. The police suspect Simon. Meanwhile, a woman named DeeDee and another man go around town killing people and burning cars.Simon and his wife Ingrid go looking for Paige. With Cornelius’ help, they meet with her dealer Rocco. Moments later Ingrid gets shot by another dealer named Luther. Luther is then shot in the shoulder by Cornelius. Ingrid enters a coma. The police again interview Simon, who claims he doesn’t know who shot Luther.

Production

In January 2024, it was announced that Netflix would be adapting Run Away by Harlan Coben with Coben as executive producer on the series. [2]

A full cast list announced on 21 January 2025 showed James Nesbitt and Ellie de Lange leading the cast alongside Ruth Jones, Alfred Enoch, Minnie Driver, Jon Pointing, Maeve Courtier-Lilley and Amy Gledhill. [3]

Filming got underway in England in January 2025. [4] [5] Filming locations include Saddleworth Moor and Greater Manchester, as well as Liverpool. [6] [7] The exterior of the depicted Lanford University is the former S. Katharine's College building, now part of Liverpool Hope University and this is edited together with scenes in the University of Manchester Old Quadrangle. [8]

Music

The score for the first two episodes was composed by David Buckley and Luke Richards, with Luke Richards receiving sole composer credit for the remaining six episodes.[ citation needed ]

The eight-part series was released on 1 January 2026. [9]

Reception

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported an 83% approval rating based on 23 critic reviews. [10] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, gave a score of 56 out of 100 based on 8 critics, indicating "mixed or average". [11]
