S.V. Tuna is a Surinamese football club from the capital city Paramaribo, currently playing in the Lidbondentoernooi, the 3rd tier of football in Suriname.^[1]

History

Founded on 1 November 1950 in Paramaribo, Suriname, S.V. Tuna played in the Hoofdklasse, the top flight of football in Suriname from the 1950s to the 1980s.^[2] Considered a strong club in the golden age of football in Suriname, the club brought forth many talents, such as Armand Sahadewsing, Puck Eliazer, Edwin Schal, Errol Emanuelson and Andy Atmodimedjo. Playing their home matches on the Plein van 12 Mei, the square to commemorate the abolishment of slavery, their head office is located on the Sophiastraat.

Tuna had a famous youth program, but were unable to win the national championship during their period at the top flight.^[3] During the eighties and nineties the club suffered some setbacks, and were eventually relegated to the Eerste Klasse in 1992. The club currently compete in the amateur district leagues of Suriname.^[4]

André Kamperveen Stadium, formerly the National Stadion, is a multi-purpose stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname. Since its opening in 1953, the stadium has been the official home stadium of both football teams S.V. Transvaal and S.V. Robinhood and the official national stadium of the Suriname national football team. With an official capacity of 7,100, it is the largest stadium in Suriname.

Sport Vereniging Robinhood is a Surinamese football club based in Paramaribo that competes in the SVB Eerste Divisie, the highest level of football in Suriname. Founded on 6 February 1945, Robinhood is the most successful club in Surinamese football, having won a record 24 league titles, and a record of five Beker van Surinames and President's Cups apiece. The club was the first Surinamese club to make the final of a North American tournament, reaching the 1972 CONCACAF Champions' Cup final. Though making five CONCACAF club championship finals in their history, Robinhood has never won a continental title.

Sport Vereniging Leo Victor, known as SV Leo Victor, is a Surinamese football club which currently plays in the Eerste Divisie. They play their home games in Paramaribo at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion.

Lloyd Doesburg was a Surinamese football goalkeeper. During his career he served Elinkwijk, Vitesse, Excelsior Rotterdam and Ajax. He died at the age of 29, when on 7 June 1989 he was killed in the Surinam Airways Flight PY764 air crash in Paramaribo.

Paul Leonard Kogeldans, known as Leo Kogeldans, is a former Surinamese footballer and manager who has played for V.V. Ajax and S.V. Voorwaarts in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse, and for VVV-Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie. He also played for the Suriname national team. After his career he was manager of Dutch amateur club V.C.H.

Armand Sahadewsing is a former Surinamese football player and manager who has played for S.V. Transvaal in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse, and for AFC DWS in the Dutch Eredivisie. He also played for the Suriname national team and later managed the team for the country's 1982 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Voetbal Vereniging Cicerone, known as Cicerone, is a Surinamese football club based in Paramaribo that played in the Hoofdklasse, the highest level of football in Suriname.

PSV Nickerie is a Surinamese football club from Nieuw Nickerie, currently playing in the district league of the Nickerie Voetbal Bond. The team play their home games at the Nickerie Voetbal Stadion to a capacity of 3,400 people.
