The Indian Government is undertaking several initiatives to upgrade its aging railway infrastructure and enhance its quality of service. The Railway Ministry has announced plans to invest ₹5,400,000 crore to upgrade the railways by 2030. Upgrades include 100% electrification of railways, upgrading existing lines with more facilities and higher speeds, expansion of new lines, upgrading railway stations, introducing and eventually developing a large high-speed train network interconnecting major cities in different parts of India and development of various dedicated freight corridors to cut down cargo costs within the country.
Vande Bharat Express is a medium-distance superfast express service operated by Indian Railways. It is a reserved, air-conditioned chair car service connecting cities that are less than 800 km (500 mi) apart or take less than ten hours to travel with existing services. The train was a part of the 'Make in India' initiative by the government and entered commercial service on 15 February 2019.

The 20173/20174 Rani Kamalapati (Habibganj) - Rewa Vande Bharat Express is India's 22nd Vande Bharat Express train, connecting the city of Bhopal with Rewa city in Madhya Pradesh. This train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 June 2023. On 8 October 2023, it was announced that starting on 10 October, the train would be extended till Rewa. Earlier the train used to run from Bhopal to Jabalpur.
The 20911/20912 Indore - Nagpur Vande Bharat Express is India's 23rd Vande Bharat Express train, connecting the city of Indore of Madhya Pradesh with Nagpur city in Maharashtra. Initially it ran from Indore Jn to Bhopal Jn when the train was first flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 June 2023. Starting from 9 October 2023, the train was extended to Nagpur, providing enhanced connectivity in the region.
The 22549/22550 Gorakhpur - Prayagraj Vande Bharat Express is India's 25th Vande Bharat Express train, connecting the city of Gorakhpur City via Ayodhya and terminating at the city of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. This express train is a former of another service which terminated at state capital city Lucknow which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 July 2023.
The 12461/12462 Jodhpur - Sabarmati (Ahmedabad) Vande Bharat Express is India's 24th Vande Bharat Express train, connecting the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan with Sabarmati in Gujarat. The train was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference from Gorakhpur Junction on 7 July 2023.
