The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (Filipino: Kalihim ng Kapaligiran at Likas na Yaman) is the head of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines.
The post is currently headed by Ret. Gen. Roy Cimatu who currently holds the position as secretary [1] after Gina Lopez was rejected by the Commission on Appointments on May 3, 2017. [2]

The Commission on Appointments is a constitutional body which confirms or rejects certain political appointments made by the President of the Philippines. The current commission was created by the 1987 Constitution.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for governing and supervising the exploration, development, utilization, and conservation of the country's natural resources.
The Department of Budget and Management is an executive body under the Office of the President of the Philippines. It is responsible for the sound and efficient use of government resources for national development and also as an instrument for the meeting of national socio-economic and political development goals.
The National Economic and Development Authority, abbreviated as NEDA, is an independent cabinet-level agency of the Philippine government responsible for economic development and planning. It is headed by the President of the Philippines as chairman of the NEDA board, with the Secretary of Socioeconomic Planning as vice-chairman. A number of Cabinet members, the Governor of the Central Bank, the Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Chairman of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, the Chairman of the Subic-Clark Area Development Corporation, and the National President of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines are members of the NEDA Board.
The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Philippines is the head and highest-ranking official of the Office of the President of the Philippines and a member of the Cabinet of the Philippines. The office-holder has been nicknamed as the "Little President" due to the nature of the position. It was given the mandate "to directly assist the President in the management of affairs of the government as well as to direct the operations of the Executive Office." It is headed by the Executive Secretary.
Michael Tan Defensor is a Filipino politician serving as the Party-list Representative for ANAKALUSUGAN since 2019. He is also the chief executive officer of Pax Libera Mining, Inc. Defensor is one of the congressmen who is against the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN and among the 70 congressmen who voted to reject the new franchise.
The Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center is a 22.7-hectare (56-acre) zoological and botanical garden located in Diliman, Quezon City, the Philippines. It was named after Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. The Ninoy Aquino Parks & Wildlife Center has a lagoon, an aquarium, a playground, botanical garden and a Wildlife Rescue Center, which the Department of Environment and Natural Resources uses as a temporary shelter where confiscated, retrieved, donated, sick, abandoned, and injured wild animals are placed to be taken care of. The park houses several indigenous plants and animals such as crab-eating macaques, water monitors, Philippine deer, binturongs, Palawan bearded pigs and several varieties of birds.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is the highest-ranking military officer (except for the President of the Philippines held a rank of Commander-in-Chief equivalent to the 5-star general) and the head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) including all service branches under its command. It is usually held by a four-star rank of General/Admiral and was formerly known as the "Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines" until June 2020. Its direct equivalent in the US Armed Forces is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Unlike his US counterpart which is merely supervisory, he has operational control and is responsible for overall operations of the AFP.
The Order of Precedence in the Philippines is the protocol used in ranking government officials and other personages in the Philippines. The Cabinet Secretariat, formerly the Office of the Cabinet Secretary, is a member agency of the Cabinet of the Philippines which provides support to the President, facilitates the exchange of information, as well as discussing and resolving issues among Cabinet members. The Cabinet Secretary also acts as a coordinator and integrator of the initiatives of the President. The Cabinet Secretariat was created through Executive Order No. 237, s. 1987.
Regina Paz "Gina" La'O Lopez was a Filipino environmentalist and philanthropist who served as Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in an ad interim basis under President Rodrigo Duterte. She was previously the Chairperson of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission under two consecutive administrations. Lopez was also a yoga missionary and a pioneer for corporate social responsibility.
Roy Agullana Cimatu is a retired Philippine Army general serving as the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources since 2017 in the Cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte. He previously served as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from May to September 2002 under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. After his retirement from the military, President Arroyo appointed him as the Special Envoy to the Middle East during the Iraq War.
