Shannon Francois is a New Zealand netball player, who is currently contracted to the Southern Steel in the trans-Tasman ANZ Championship. Francois, who is a predominantly a midcourter has played for Otago in the National Provincial Championships since 2010. She made the New Zealand under 21 squad in 2011 and played against Australia in three tests. She was later named in the FastNet Ferns squad to compete the World Netball Series, in Liverpool in late November. Francois joined Silver Fern players Irene van Dyk, Maria Tutaia and Katrina Grant in the side. [1]

Netball ball sport

Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women's Basketball was formed. As of 2011, the INF comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions.

Southern Steel

The Southern Steel are a New Zealand netball team based in Invercargill that compete in the ANZ Premiership. The franchise was formed as an amalgamation of two teams from the National Bank Cup: the Dunedin-based Otago Rebels and the Invercargill-based Southern Sting. After the National Bank Cup was retired in 2007, the newly formed Steel joined four other New Zealand franchises in the new ANZ Championship, representing the New Zealand regions of Otago and Southland. The ANZ Championship ran from 2008 to 2016, after which the Steel joined five other New Zealand teams in the new ANZ Premiership.

ANZ Championship netball league in Australasia

The ANZ Championship was the premier netball league in Australia and New Zealand. The competition was held annually between April and July, comprising 69 matches played over 17 weeks. It was contested by ten teams, five from Australia and five from New Zealand. The competition was administered by Trans Tasman Netball League, which was formed as a joint venture by the netball governing bodies of both countries. ANZ Bank was naming sponsors of the competition since its inaugural season.

She was named in the Silver Ferns for the Australian leg of the 2012 Quad Series, although she was not capped.

While playing international netball, Francois completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Otago graduating in 2012. [2]

A Bachelor of Pharmacy is an undergraduate academic degree in the field of pharmacy. In many countries, this degree is a prerequisite for registration to practice as a pharmacist. It is training to understand the properties and impacts of medicines and developing the skills required to counsel patients about their use.

Shannon was also an exceptional sprinter while at school.

Primarily a midcourt player, Langman is the current captain of the New Zealand national netball team, having once been the national team vice-captain in the past. Since October 2018, she has been the most-capped player for the Silver Ferns, having overtaken the record of 145 national team matches held by Irene van Dyk.

Jodi Brown New Zealand netball player

Jodi Anne Brown is a retired New Zealand netball player. Brown was a member of the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns from 2002 to 2015, taking time off in between those periods due to injury and pregnancy, earning 61 caps. She has also played elite domestic netball in New Zealand for 13 years, and has signed with the Southern Steel for 2014. She played for the Central Pulse in 2015 and was getting set to play her final season in 2016 before she injured her ACL in the preseason and decided to retire from domestic netball after she had retired from international netball in 2015. In 2015, Jodi began co-coaching at St Hilda’s Collegiate, Dunedin with the year nine A team. She has since followed this team through the years, which included a devastating 1 point loss in the SISS final. In 2018, Brown coached the St Hilda’s Senior A team and also coached the Dunedin U17 team to 11th place at Nationals.

Casey May Kopua is a New Zealand international netball player. She is the former captain of the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns, and is the captain of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the ANZ Championship.

Katrina Rore is a New Zealand international netball player. Rore is the current vice-captain of the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns, and plays for the Central Pulse in the ANZ Championship.

Caitlin Bassett Australian netball player

Caitlin Bassett is an Australian netballer, currently playing for Giants Netball and the Australia national netball team. Bassett is the 24th captain of the Australia national team.

Grace Kara is a New Zealand netball player of Samoan descent. Kara played in the National Bank Cup for the Auckland Diamonds from 2005–07. She continued playing in Auckland for the Northern Mystics in the ANZ Championship, starting in 2008. She is the younger sister of fellow Mystics player Rachel Rasmussen.

Demelza McCloud is an Australian netball player. She was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. McCloud was selected in the Australian national team in 2004 and 2005. Domestically, she has played for the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Kestrels in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy, and also played in New Zealand for the Otago Rebels in the 2007 National Bank Cup.

Phillipa Finch is a New Zealand netball player. Finch has been added to the Southern Steel squad for the 2012 ANZ Championship season to replace the pregnant Wendy Frew. She previously played with the Otago Rebels in the National Bank Cup from 2001. With the start of the ANZ Championship, Finch was signed with the Canterbury Tactix, although she continued to play provincial netball with Otago. Finch was also included in the New Zealand Accelerant Squad, which replaced the New Zealand A netball team in 2008.

Anna Kennedy is a New Zealand netball player. Lennedy plays in the ANZ Championship for the Canterbury Tactix. In 2009, she was named as a member of the Silver Ferns squad. She was included in the FastNet Ferns the following year, and was called back into the Silver Ferns for 2011 as cover for injured vice-captain Temepara George. She made the team for the 2011 Netball World Championships after Cathrine Latu was ruled ineligible.

Wendy Frew is a New Zealand netball player. Frew was a previous member of the champion Southern Sting in the National Bank Cup from 2002 until 2007. With the start of the ANZ Championship in 2008, she remained in Southland playing for the new Southern Steel franchise. 2018 will be Frew's fifth season as captain and her 16th representing the southern franchise, including its predecessor the Sting.

Tania Mary Dalton was a New Zealand international netball player. After retiring from playing professionally, she worked as a netball commentator on SKY Sports for international tests, the ANZ Championship and National Championships, alongside former internationals Anna Stanley, Natalie Avellino, Kathryn Harby-Williams and Bernice Mene. Dalton was also a part owner of the franchise food outlet chain, Pita Pit New Zealand Limited.

Camilla Lees is a New Zealand netball player.

Janine Southby Brown is a retired New Zealand netball player who then coached the national Silver Ferns netball team. She was also the coach of the Southern Steel in the ANZ Championship. Southby played for the Western Flyers in the National Bank Cup competition from 1997–2001, before transferring to the Dunedin-based Otago Rebels in 2002. In 2015, Southby was given the role as head coach for the New Zealand netball team the Silver Ferns. Southby had resigned on July 20th 2018 where the independent review found fault in Southby's coaching style.

Sulu Tone-Fitzpatrick is a New Zealand netball and rugby sevens player. She plays for the Southern Steel in the ANZ Championships. She can play the Goal Keeper, Goal Defence, and Wing Defence positions. She is of Samoan heritage.
