SVF Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian film production and distribution company, founded by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni in 1995. Apart from producing and distributing Bengali films in West Bengal, Bangladesh, Assam and Tripura, SVF also distributes Bollywood and Hollywood films in East India. The other divisions of the company include Exhibition, TV Content Production, Digital Cinema, Music, New Media and IPR syndication. SVF was in Anandabazar Patrika's powerlist for 2008 [13] and 2010.

Background

SVF Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 1995 [1] by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni. They started off as distributors of Hindi films like Bekaar Ka Number, Khamoshi in Eastern India. Their first film production is in 1996, Bhai Amar Bhai starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Chiranjeet Chakraborty and directed by Swapan Saha which became a blockbuster. Later, they produced the Prosenjit Chatterjee starrer Sasurbari Zindabad in 2000 which became the highest-grossing Bengali movie until then. They followed it up with successful films like Sathi (2002), I Love You (2007), Chirodini ...Tumi Je Aamar (2008) etc. Along with commercial entertainers they have also backed experimental films by directors like Rituparno Ghosh, Kaushik Ganguly, Srijit Mukherji, Sandip Ray and Dhrubo Banerjee. In the film entertainment space, SVF has the following divisions: Production, Television, Distribution, Music, Digital Cinema, Exhibition and New Media. [15]

Film production

SVF Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. is one of the biggest integrated production houses in Eastern India. So far it has produced more than 160 films including National Award winning films like Memories in March , [16] Chokher Bali , [17] [18] Raincoat , Chotoder Chobi , Ek Je Chhilo Raja, Gumnaami etc.; blockbusters like Sasurbari Zindabad , Sathi , Minister Fatakeshto , [19] Champion , Jackpot , Chirodini Tumi Je Amar , Challenge, Paran Jai Jaliya Re , Josh , Prem Aamar, Shedin Dekha Hoyechilo, Amanush, Awara , Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Mishar Rohosya, Guptodhoner Sondhane , Ek Je Chhilo Raja , Durgeshgorer Guptodhon , Chander Pahar , Amazon Obhijaan , Karnasubarner Guptodhon and many others. It has also produced critically acclaimed films like Autograph , Iti Mrinalini , Memories in March , Baishe Srabon , Royal Bengal Rahasya , Hemlock Society , Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish , Rajkahini, Uma , Byomkesh Gotro , Durgeshgorer Guptodhon , Golondaaj, Karnasuborner Guptodhon and many others. Digital cinema

In January 2008, SVF Entertainment Pvt Ltd. entered a partnership with Real Image Media Technologies [25] [26] to bring their Qube Digital Cinema technology to Eastern India. [27]

Television

In the television space, SVF has co-promoted Media Worldwide Limited [28] and its four leading channels: Music India, Sangeet Bangla, Sangeet Bhojpuri, Sangeet Marathi and Music India UK. [29] The company has also produced prime-time shows for Zee Bangla, Star Jalsha, [30] Colors Bangla, Rupashi Bangla, Mahua Bangla, Sananda TV. Some of the popular shows include Trinayani, Bojhena Se Bojhena, Goyenda Ginni, Maa....Tomay Chara Ghum Ashena, [31] Behula, Durga, Bandhan, I Love You, Sindoorkhela, Janmantar , Mrs Singha Roy, Bisharjan, Sangsar Sukher Hoy Ramanir Guney, Bodhu Kon Alo Laglo Chokhe, Bhootu , Dashi, Anurager Chhowa and many others.

OTT platform

In 2017, SVF launched Hoichoi, an OTT platform. [32] [33]

Challenge: Nibi na Saala or simply Challenge is a 2009 Indian Bengali-language action film written and directed by Raj Chakraborty. Produced by Shrikant Mohta under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films, the film stars Dev and Subhashree Ganguly in the lead roles, while Rajatava Dutta, Biswajit Chakraborty, Supriyo Dutta, Kharaj Mukherjee, Laboni Sarkar, Tulika Basu and Partha Sarathi Chakraborty play other pivotal roles. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Jeet Gannguli and cinematography was by Somak Mukherjee. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Raj Chakraborty and N. K. Salil. Being a remake of the Telugu film Dil (2003), it also had some plot elements and scenes from Bunny (2005).

A remake of the Telugu film Gamyam, Dui Prithibi brought two of the biggest stars of Bengali cinema, Jeet and Dev, together for the only time on the celluloid.

Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury is an Indian Bengali singer and a Faculty at the Department of Psychology, Asutosh College, which is affiliated with University of Calcutta. She rose to fame with the release of 'Tumi Asbe Bole' & 'Jagarane Jay Bibhabaree' from the Bengali film Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona in 2011. She has been a prominent singer in Bengali films since 2007. Besides films, she also worked for several solo albums with her band Somlata & the Aces. Apart from being a singer, she works as a guest lecturer of Psychology in Asutosh College, Kolkata.

Soham Chakraborty is an Indian actor, producer, television personality and politician. He has appeared in more than 100 Bengali films, as child artist and as male lead. He earned numerous accolades, including Uttam Kumar Awards, BFJA Awards and Star Jalsha Entertainment Awards. Chakraborty has a significant following in West Bengal, Assam and other adjacent states in India and Bangladesh. He is a member of All India Trinamool Congress. He contested 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Borjora Constituency. He won the General election 2021 from Chandipur constituency by a margin of 14000 votes. He was sworn in as Member of Legislative Assembly on 2 May 2021.

<i>Golondaaj</i> 2021 Indian film

Golondaaj is a 2021 Indian Bengali-language biographical historical sports drama film directed by Dhrubo Banerjee and produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the banner of SVF. The film stars Dev, Alexx O'Nell, Anirban Bhattacharya, Ishaa Saha, Indrasish Roy, John Bhattacharya, Mirchi Agni and Srikanta Acharya. It is based on the life of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, who is known as the "Father of Indian football". The film emerged as blockbuster at the box-office. At the 5th Filmfare Awards Bangla, Dhrubo Banerjee won "Best Screenplay" award for Golondaaj.
