The Sierra Nevada brushfinch (Arremon basilicus) is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae.
It lives in the undergrowth of humid forests, especially near the edges, at altitudes of 300 to 1,200 metres (980 to 3,940 ft) in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia. [2] [3]
The Sierra Nevada brushfinch was often treated as a subspecies of the stripe-headed brushfinch (A. torquatus), but was determined a distinct species on the basis of differences in vocalization, plumage, and genetics. [4] The SACC split the group in 2010.
Quetzals are strikingly colored birds in the trogon family. They are found in forests, especially in humid highlands, with the five species from the genus Pharomachrus being exclusively Neotropical, while a single species, the eared quetzal, Euptilotis neoxenus, is found in Mexico and very locally in the southernmost United States. Quetzals are fairly large, slightly bigger than other trogon species. The resplendent quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala because of its vibrant colour.
The white-tailed trogon is a near passerine bird in the trogon family. It is found in tropical humid forests of the Chocó, ranging from Panama, through western Colombia, to western Ecuador. It was formerly considered a subspecies of T. viridis, which is widespread in South America east of the Andes, but under the English name white-tailed trogon.
The white-necked thrush is a songbird found in forest and woodland in South America. The taxonomy is potentially confusing, and it sometimes includes the members of the T. assimilis group as subspecies, in which case the "combined species" is referred to as the white-throated thrush. On the contrary, it may be split into two species, the rufous-flanked thrush and the grey-flanked thrush.
The yellow-legged thrush is a songbird of northern and eastern South America and the Caribbean.
The long-billed hermit is a bird in the family Trochilidae, the hummingbirds. It is found from central Mexico south through Central America, Colombia and Ecuador into Peru.
The red-legged tinamou or red-footed tinamou, is a ground-dwelling bird found in the tropics and lower subtropics of northern South America.
Arremon is a genus of neotropical birds in the family Passerellidae. With the exception of the green-striped brushfinch which is endemic to Mexico, all species are found in South America, with a few reaching Central America.
The white-browed brushfinch is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae. It lives in northwestern Argentina, Bolivia, and southern Peru. It is generally common in forest and dense second growth, mainly at altitudes of 2,000 to 3,000 metres, but locally it occurs at far lower altitudes. It previously was considered the nominate subspecies of the stripe-headed brushfinch.
The moustached brushfinch is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae.
The wing-barred seedeater is a passerine bird from coastal regions of north-eastern South America in north-eastern Venezuela, Tobago, the Guianas, Amapá and north-eastern Pará, Brazil, and along the Amazon River upstream to around Manaus. Formerly, it included the mainly Central American Sporophila corvina and the west Amazonian S. murallae as subspecies, in which case the combined species had the common name Variable Seedeater. Following the split, this common name is now restricted to S. corvina.
The Costa Rican brushfinch or grey-striped brushfinch is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae. It lives in the undergrowth of humid forest, especially near the edges, at altitudes of 300 to 1,200 metres in Panama and Costa Rica.
