Singapore Miniature Zoo was a former private zoo located in Singapore from 1957 to 1960s. It was located at 189 West Coast Road (old informally Pasir Panjang Road 7 1/4 milestone). [1]
Opened by wildlife dealer Tong Seng Mun in 1957, it was home to a multitude of bird and animal species; such as lions, sun bears, penguins, panthers, orangutans, a leopard, a tapir, a camel, a baby rhinoceros, and a baby elephant. In addition to 50 tanks of tropical fish. [2] [3]
The size of the zoo was 2 hectares, which faced the sea. Owned a 90 kg sea lion imported from Holland in 1956 (costing $3,000) - it was featured at Singapore Aquarists Society's fish exhibition (held at the Happy World Stadium). The zoo was opened daily from 9am to 7pm, charged admission fees of 50c for adults and 20c for children. The zoo closed in the early 1960s. [4]
The Singapore Zoo, formerly known as the Singapore Zoological Gardens or Mandai Zoo, is a 28 hectares zoo located on the margins of Upper Seletar Reservoir within Singapore's heavily forested central catchment area. Pasir Panjang MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Circle line. As the name suggests, it is located in Pasir Panjang at the southern part of Queenstown planning area, Singapore. This station is situated underneath Pasir Panjang Road and Labrador Viaduct, next to the Pasir Panjang Food Centre, Currency House and Pasir Panjang container terminal. It is also near the Reflections at Bukit Chandu, a museum near the site of the Battle of Pasir Panjang.
Haw Par Villa MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Circle line (CCL) in Queenstown, Singapore. Located underneath West Coast Highway and Pasir Panjang Road, the station serves the nearby Haw Par Villa, alongside the Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre.
Pasir Ris Park is a beach park located in the eastern part of Singapore. It covers an area of 70 hectares, and was partially built on reclaimed land. Initially planned in the late 1970s to serve people living in the vicinity, the park was designed with the help of two Japanese landscape specialists. Construction began on the park in September 1984, and the park was opened in phases from August 1986 to 1991. The park was further expanded in 2007, with the addition of new areas such as a herb garden.
Pasir Ris Bus Interchange is a bus interchange located at Pasir Ris in the eastern part of Singapore. It is located off Pasir Ris Drive 3, adjacent to Pasir Ris MRT station and near White Sands Shopping Centre. This bus interchange also serves as a pick-up/drop-off point for shuttle buses ferrying NSFs heading to the SAF Ferry Terminal for their shuttle ferry to Pulau Tekong.
West Coast Highway is a major arterial road in Singapore which links Jurong industrial estate and Clementi New Town to the city. It is an at-grade road from its junction with Pandan Loop and West Coast Road to its interchange with Pasir Panjang Road, where it becomes a grade-separated viaduct; the viaduct merges with Keppel Road before its interchange with Ayer Rajah Expressway. The total length of the highway is 11 km. The viaduct is newer than the at-grade section, having been completed in 2006.
Labrador Nature Reserve, also known locally as Labrador Park, is located in the southern part of mainland Singapore. It is home to the only rocky sea-cliff on the mainland that is accessible to the public. Since 2002, 10 hectares of coastal secondary-type vegetation and its rocky shore have been gazetted as a nature reserve and its flora and fauna preserved by NParks.
Kent Ridge Park is a 47-hectare public park located in Kent Ridge, Singapore, between the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Science Park. Due to its undisturbed habitat and abundant plant life, it is a popular venue for bird-watchers and eco-tourists.
Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) interchange station on the Downtown line (DTL) and the Bukit Panjang LRT line (BPLRT) in Singapore. Located in the namesake estate of Bukit Panjang, the station is at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Petir Road. The station serves the commercial buildings of Bukit Panjang Plaza, Hillion Mall, and Junction 10. West Coast Park is a large regional park located at the south-western corner of West Coast, Singapore. It runs parallel to West Coast Highway, and covers an area of roughly 50 hectares of park land consisting of three areas, each with its own variety of activities promising to ensure a fun-filled day for visitors both young and old. Queenstown Public Library is one of the 26 public libraries established by the National Library Board of Singapore. It was the first full-time Branch Library to be built by the National Library in its plan to decentralise home reading services. It pioneered several firsts amongst Branch Libraries, including becoming the first fully air-conditioned Branch in 1978, computerising its loan services in 1987, and lending video cassettes in 1997. It was refurbished in 2003. The building plans were approved by Mrs Hedwig Anuar, the then-Director of the National Library. Building construction began in November 1968 and with its completion, the building was handed over to the National Library on 26 December 1969. It is currently the oldest library in Singapore after the original National Library at Stamford Road was torn down, the first of 26 under the National Library Board (NLB) to be preserved as announced on 25 July 2014 and was gazetted for conservation under the Urban Redevelopment Authority's Master Plan 2014, as part of the medium-term physical development of Singapore on 6 June that year.
The Punggol Zoo, formally Singapore Zoological Gardens and Bird Park, was a former animal collection in Singapore from 1928 to 1942. Founded by Singaporean-Indian land owner William Lawrence Soma Basapa, the name comes from the location on an 11-hectare site on Punggol Road, possibly near Sungei Dekar. The zoo persisted until just before the Japanese occupation of Singapore during World War II.
