Sirisena Hettige

Sirisena Hettige (born 15 July 1920) was a Ceylonese politician. [1] [2] A member of the United National Party, he was a parliamentarian for Hakmana electorate in Matara district. [3] Hettige was born in Matara and educated at Mahinda College, Galle, where he was an outstanding cricketer during his school days. [4] [5] He was a planter by profession and was a director of the Sri Lanka State Plantation Corporation.

Presidential elections were held in Sri Lanka on 16 November 2019. The incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena's term of office would have ended on 9 January 2020. This was the first presidential election in Sri Lanka where no sitting president, prime minister or opposition leader ran for president. Gotabaya Rajapaksa won the election in a landslide victory, defeating his main opponent Sajith Premadasa.

He was first elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka as first member for Akurana, Harispathuwa representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the 1965 parliamentary election, he was elected the second member for Akurana in the 1970 parliamentary election.
