The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC), previously known as the International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer (iSBTc), is a professional society of scientists, academicians, researchers, clinicians, government representatives, and industry leaders from around the world dedicated to improving outcomes in patients with cancer by advancing the science and application of cancer immunotherapy. Currently, SITC has more than 2,400 members, representing 22 medical specialties from 42 countries around the world, who are engaged in the research and treatment of cancer.

Through emphasis on high-caliber scientific meetings, dedication to education and outreach activities, focus on initiatives of major importance to the field, and commitment to collaborations with like-minded organizations and patient advocacy groups, SITC brings together all aspects of the cancer immunology and immunotherapy community in an effort to make cancer immunotherapy one of the four standards of care and the word “cure” a reality for cancer patients living with this disease.

The goals of SITC are directed towards the rapid dissemination of information in these areas to expedite the safe transfer of both basic and applied research to the clinical setting.

Activities

SITC programs include the Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs, Advances in Cancer Immunotherapy educational series, and an array of collaborative education programs, [1] intended to bring together leaders to discuss the latest developments in cancer immunotherapy and biological therapy, and to focus on and educate the clinical and translational aspects of biologic approaches to cancer treatment. Membership

SITC's membership consists of leaders in the field of cancer immunotherapy and up-and-coming scientists. This group includes research scientists, physician scientists, clinicians, patients, patient advocates, government representatives and industry leaders. In 2018, SITC grew to more than 2,400 members, representing 22 medical specialties and 42 countries around the world and are engaged in research and treatment of cancer. [3]

Publications

The Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC) is the official journal of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC). It is an open access, online journal created by the Society for the many stakeholders in the tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy community. JITC is an outlet and targeted publication platform dedicated to advancing the science of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy. [7]

Rosenberg is an American cancer researcher and surgeon, chief of Surgery at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland and a Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Ronald Bruce Herberman was an American physician, immunologist, oncologist, and professor of medicine and pathology who founded the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Care Center in 1984. He helped discover natural killer cells capable of killing cancer. He became well known outside the medical community in 2008 for his public warning about the potential health impacts of mobile telephones and recommending a reduction in their use.

Özlem Türeci is a German physician, scientist and entrepreneur. In 2008, she co-founded the biotechnology company BioNTech, which in 2020 developed the first messenger RNA-based vaccine approved for use against COVID-19. Türeci has served as BioNTech's chief medical officer since 2018. Antoni Ribas is a Spanish American physician–scientist. He is a Professor of Medicine, Surgery, and Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Director of the Tumor Immunology Program at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Ribas served as president of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in 2021–2022.

Adekunle O. Odunsi is an American gynecologic oncologist. In 2021, Odunsi became the director of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Philip Greenberg is a professor of medicine, oncology, and immunology at the University of Washington and head of program in immunology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. His research is centered around T cell biology and therapeutic cell therapies. He is a co-founder of Juno Therapeutics.

Cornelis Joseph Maria Melief is a immunologuist specialising in cancer immunology and immunotherapy, with a focus on therapeutic cancer vaccines. He is Emeritus Professor, former head of the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at the Leiden University Medical Center, and Chief Scientific Officer at ISA Therapeutics in Netherlands. He is known for his work in the field of cancer immunology, devising new cancer therapies based on the activation of the patient’s own immune system.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Marcin Kortylewski</span> Polish American cancer researcher and immunologist

Marcin Kortylewski is a Polish American cancer researcher and immunologist. He is currently professor of immuno-oncology at the Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California. His research has shown that the STAT3 protein plays a role in protecting cancers from immune responses and contributes to resistance to therapies. Later he developed a two-pronged strategy for cancer immunotherapy using simultaneous STAT3 inhibition and TLR9 immune stimulation. Kortylewski invented platform strategy for delivery of oligonucleotides, such as siRNA, miRNA, decoy DNA, antisense molecules and others to selected immune cells.
