Negros Oriental State University is a public/state nonsectarian higher education institution in Dumaguete, Philippines. It was founded in 2004 by virtue of RA 9299. It is the only state university in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines. Its Main Campus is located in Dumaguete and has the most number of academic programs and student organizations. It also has 6 satellite campuses all over the province. Formerly Central Visayas Polytechnic College, it was converted into a state university for students from Visayas and Mindanao.

It was established in 1940 when the Jesuits took over the administration of the diocesan school, Camarines Sur Catholic Academy. The Jesuits renamed the school Ateneo de Naga after taking control. The Jesuits were naming all the schools that they were opening at that time Ateneo. Ateneo de Naga was the fourth school named Ateneo by the Jesuits. The National Service Reserve Corps, also referred to by the acronym NSRC, is a unit composed of graduates of the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and Literacy Training Service (LTS) components of the National Service Training Program, a civic education and defense preparedness program in the Philippines. Members of this corps may be tapped by the state for literacy and civic welfare activities. In 2010 the NSRC was mandated to be accredited and mobilized for the delivery of disaster risk reduction programs and activities.
