The Special Intelligence Group [3] [4] [5] (Spanish : Grupo Especial de Inteligencia, GEIN) [6] was an elite unit of the National Police of Peru created within its National Directorate Against Terrorism with the purpose of locating and capturing the leadership bodies of terrorist groups operating since 1980: the Shining Path and the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement.

This unit is historically remembered for having carried out the capture of Shining Path leader Abimael Guzmán, who was arrested along with part of his central committee on September 12, 1992. After this, it was dissolved on October 3, 1993, becoming the Regional Terrorism Investigation Department 1 (Spanish : Departamento de Investigación de Terrorismo Regional 1, DITER 1). [7] For their work, the group's former members have been declared "Heroes of Democracy" since 2017. [6]

The Cuellos Blancos scandal or the CNM Audios scandal is a judicial scandal caused by the revelation of audio recordings of judges and their staff, with the most notable individual being Associative Justice of the Supreme Court of Peru César Hinostroza, allegedly discussing bribes and reducing criminal penalties. These judges were part of the National Council of Magistracy. The scandal was revealed by an initiative led by the investigative journalism website IDL-Reporteros, which ultimately collected over 63,000 audio recordings that reportedly unveiled one of the largest corruption networks in Peru's judicial history. Following the scandal, the CNM would be restructured into the National Board of Justice (JNJ).

The San Miguel del Ene attack was a massacre on 23 May 2021 in San Miguel del Ene, a rural area in the Vizcatán del Ene District of Satipo Province in Peru, in which 18 people were killed. The massacre was most likely perpetrated by the Militarized Communist Party of Peru (MPCP), a split of the Maoist terrorist organization Shining Path. The attack occurred in the Valle de los Ríos Apurímac, Ene y Mantaro (VRAEM) conflict region, where the group operates.

It is based on real events and set at the beginning of the 1990s, a time of terrorism in Peru, specifically during Operation Victoria, which led to the capture of the terrorist leader Abimael Guzmán.

DIRCOTE Museum is a museum located in the premises of the National Directorate against Terrorism (DIRCOTE) on Spain Avenue in the historic centre of Lima, managed by the National Police of Peru and which exhibits objects seized from the Shining Path and Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) terrorist groups during the internal armed conflict that devastated Peru during the 1980s and 1990s.

The Urban Operational Tactical Intelligence Unit, better known as the Grupo Terna, is a specialised unit of the Special Operations Division of the National Police of Peru. It consists of police officers dressed in plain clothes, who blend in with criminal areas and intervene against people who commit flagrant crimes, using operational tactical intelligence.
