The Speedway Youth World Championship, or Speedway Under-16 World Championship, is an annual speedway event held each year and organized by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) since 2010. [1]

As of 2022, the title was awarded to the winner of the SGP3 category at the FIM Speedway World Championship. [2]

History

The series was launched as the Speedway 250cc Youth World Cup. At launch it was limited to 250cc speedway bikes and for competitors 16 years of age or under, which has remained ever since. In 2018 it was renamed the Speedway World Youth Championship, [3] before changing names again in 2022 to SGP3.

The event was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4]

Age limits

The maximum age is 16 years of age; finishing at the end of the year in which the rider celebrates his or her 16th birthday.

The Sidewinders Speedway is a junior Motorcycle speedway that was opened in 1978 in the semi-industrial Adelaide suburb of Wingfield in South Australia. The Sidewinders U/16 Speedway Club Inc. was founded two years earlier in 1976 by Graham Baker and Roy Bitmead, with help from Rowley Park Speedway riders Robin and Kym Amundson, and their father Bill. The Speedway of Nations is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams, held each year in a different country. The first edition of the competition in the current format took place in 2018. It was the first time an official FIM international pairs competition was staged since the World Pairs Championship ceased in 1993. Australia are the current champions after winning in 2022. The Speedway of Nations was not held in 2023 due to the return of the Speedway World Cup, but will return to the speedway calendar in 2024 and 2025.

The 2017 Team Speedway Junior European Championship was the 10th Team Speedway Junior European Championship season. It was organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and was the 6th as an under 21 years of age event.
