Sri Lanka participated at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 October to 18 October 2018.

Contents

Sri Lanka made its Youth Olympics (and Olympics) debut in three sports it qualified in: archery, basketball and gymnastics. Sri Lanka also made its Youth Olympics debut in the sport of shooting.

Parami Wasanthi Maristela won Sri Lanka's first ever Youth Olympics medal, a bronze in the girls' 2000 metre steeplechase athletics event. [1]

Athletics

Sri Lanka qualified two athletes. On the first day of the Asian trials held in Bangkok, Thailand, Sri Lanka won two quotas. Dilan Bogoda took first place in the boys' 400 metres event, while Parami Wasanthi Maristela won the 2000 metres steeplechase in a world leading team to qualify. [5] [6] [7] On the second day of trials, high jumper Seniru Amarasinghe qualified in second place with the third ranked jump in the world (in the age category), while sprinter Shelinda Jansen qualified in third position. Basketball

Kimiko Raheem Sri Lankan swimmer

Kimiko Raheem is a Sri Lankan national swimmer who has represented her country at several international competitions. She represented her country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She won multiple gold medals at the 2016 South Asian Games in the backstroke and freestyle events. She won the highest number of medals by a Sri Lankan woman at the 2016 South Asian Games in India. She is the younger sister of Mayumi Raheem and Machiko Raheem both of whom hold national records themselves. She was a semi-finalist at the 100M Backstroke event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She holds numerous Sri Lankan national records and South Asian records in her name.

Sri Lanka at the 2017 Asian Winter Games Sporting event delegation

Sri Lanka took part in the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan from February 19 to 26. This marks the country's official debut at the Asian Winter Games and a global Winter sporting event. The country is scheduled to compete with five athletes in one sport. The team will also consist of two officials and a chef de mission. The chef de mission of the team is Gihan Dalpathdo, the secretary general of Winter Sport Association of Sri Lanka.

Kyle Abeysinghe Sri Lankan national swimmer (born 2000)

Kyle Abeysinghe is a Sri Lankan national swimmer who has represented his country at several international competitions. At the domestic level, Abeysinghe holds numerous national records, has been national champion several times, and is a member of the Killer Whale Aquatic Club, under his coach and father, Manoj Abeysinghe.

Newsfirst Platinum Awards

Platinum Awards is an award bestowed to distinguished individuals involved with the sports in Sri Lanka, who lifted the country in local and international level. The award will present in each year by the MTV / MBC Network in collaboration with many sponsors. The first Platinum awards were held in 2014. Platinum Awards, is the first ever sports awards ceremony started in Sri Lanka and thus dubbed “The Oscars of sports awards ceremonies in Sri Lanka”.

Nimali Liyanarachchi Sri Lankan athlete

Nimali Waliwarsha Konda Liyanarachchi is a Sri Lankan 800 m runner and current national record holder in women's 1500m event. She is also believed to be the first Sri Lankan woman to have competed in steeplechase events. She became the first Sri Lankan woman to complete the distance of 3000 metres in steeplechase event under 11 minutes. She won the best athlete award twice at the Presidential award ceremonies by the Sports Ministry including the Most Outstanding Sportswoman of the Year in 2015. She is currently attached to Sri Lanka Air Force.

Ekanayake Mudiyaselage Idame Gedara Indunil Madushan Herath is a Sri Lankan middle-distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. He won a silver medal at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Sri Lanka competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018.

Dinusha Hansani Gomes, also known as Hansani Gomes, is a Sri Lankan female weightlifter. She was named as one of the members of the Sri Lankan contingent at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and claimed a bronze medal in the women's 48kg event on the opening day of the competition on 5 April 2018, which was also the second medal earned by Sri Lanka at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and was also the second medal secured by the Sri Lankan contingent in weightlifting category. Gomes also won Sri Lanka's first ever weightlifting medal by a woman at the Commonwealth Games.

Sri Lanka participated at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018.

Aruna Darshana Sri Lankan sprinter

Aruna Darshana is a Sri Lankan sprinter specialising in the 400 metres. He was born in a rural village call Seruwila near Trincomalee.

Dimuth Akalanka Peiris also known as Dimuth Peiris is a Sri Lankan male swimmer and a national record holder in swimming. He represented Sri Lanka at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and competed in swimming competitions. In August 2018, he became the first ever Sri Lankan student to sit for a Sri Lankan GCE A/L examinations outside Sri Lanka as he was granted special permission to write A/L exams in Jakarta, Indonesia just prior to his preparations for the 2018 Asian Games. He represented Sri Lanka at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in October 2018 which was held in Argentina. He also went onto represent Sri Lanka at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships as the only male swimmer.

Parami Wasanthi Maristela Kalumarakkalage also known as Parami Wasanthi Maristela is a Sri Lankan track and field athlete who competes in the 2000 metre steeplechase event. She is the first Sri Lankan to have won a Youth Olympic medal. She pursued her secondary education at Kuliyapitiya Central School.

Swimming is among the sports which is being contested at the 2019 South Asian Games. Swimming is being hosted in the International Sports Complex, Satdobato between December 5 and 9, 2019.

Sri Lanka at the 2020 Summer Olympics Sporting event delegation

Sri Lanka competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's eighteenth appearance at the Summer Olympics, with the exception of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Seven of the nation's previous Olympic appearances were under the name Ceylon.

Hetti Thanthrige Ushan Thiwanka Perera also simply known either as Ushan Thiwanka Perera or Ushan Thiwanka is a Sri Lankan high jumper and a Sri Lankan national record holder in men's high jump as well as in men's indoor high jump. He currently lives in Texas, United States. He also currently serves as a military personnel with the Sri Lanka Army and affiliated with the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps.
