History

Members of the Startz family built a little store and opened it in 1935. The community started to expand around 1964 after the neighboring Canyon Dam was completed. A large portion of the land near the lake was developed as residential subdivisions, even though the population of Startzville proper was only estimated to be 30 in 1966. Startzville saw the establishment of numerous companies aimed at catering to the wider Canyon Lake community. Thirty people called the community home in 1990. The population did not change in 2000. The development of additional developments in the vicinity of Canyon Lake contributed to the community's explosive growth in the years that followed. Estimates of the population put it at 5,000 in 2009 and 7,000 in 2016. [2]
