A steakhouse, steak house, or chophouse is a restaurant that specializes in steaks [1] and chops. Modern steakhouses may also carry other cuts of meat including poultry, roast prime rib, and veal, as well as fish and other seafood.
Chophouses started in London in the 1690s and served individual portions of meat, known as chops. [2] The traditional nature of the food served was zealously maintained through the later 19th century despite the new cooking styles from the Continent, which were becoming fashionable. The houses were normally open only for men. [3] The oldest chophouse in London, Simpson's Tavern is regarded as an institution of London and retains its 19th century decor.
The steakhouse started in the United States in the mid-19th century as a development from traditional inns and bars. [4] Steakhouses can be casual or formal fine-dining restaurants.
The oldest continuously operating steakhouse in the United States is the Old Homestead Steakhouse in New York City, established in 1868. Prior to that, there were chophouses in New York City such as Cobweb Hall, owned by David Pattullo, which was known for its mutton chops and offered additional menu options such as beefsteaks, lamb kidneys, bacon, and potatoes. Today, steakhouses are found throughout the USA. [6]

Steak tartare or tartar steak is a French dish of raw ground (minced) beef. It is usually served with onions, capers, parsley or chive, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and other seasonings, often presented separately, to be added to taste. It is commonly served topped with a raw egg yolk. It is similar to the Levantine kibbeh nayyeh, the Turkish çiğ köfte, the German Mett and the Korean yukhoe.

A meat chop is a cut of meat cut perpendicular to the spine, and usually containing a rib or riblet part of a vertebra and served as an individual portion. The most common kinds of meat chops are pork and lamb. A thin boneless chop, or one with only the rib bone, may be called a cutlet, though the difference is not always clear. The term "chop" is not usually used for beef, but a T-bone steak is essentially a loin chop, a rib steak and a rib cutlet.
Angus Steakhouse is a restaurant chain of steak houses in central London. In 2001, there were about 30 outlets; 5 remain open as of July 2020. The name reflects Aberdeen Angus, a Scottish breed of beef cattle. Some restaurants still retain the former trading name, "Aberdeen Steak Houses", on their signage, as of September 2016.

He founded Nusr-Et, a chain of luxury steak houses. As of 2021, Nusr-Et has branches in Turkey, Greece, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The name of the restaurant chain comes from his own name and et, which means "meat" in Turkish.
