Steve Axman (born June 10, 1947) is an American football coach. He was the head football coach at Northern Arizona University from 1990 to 1997 and the interim head coach at Nicholls State University in 2014.
Axman was head coach at MacArthur High School in Levittown, New York in 1973. [1]
Axman began coaching in college in 1974 as a defensive line coach at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. [1] In 1975, he was the offensive line coach at the University at Albany, SUNY. In 1976, Axman was head coach of the Albany Great Danes men's lacrosse team. In his one season as head coach, he compiled a record of 6–5. [2]
From 1976 to 1978, he was an assistant coach for the Army Cadets football team at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. In 1979, he moved to the University of Illinois as an assistant coach for the Fighting Illini. [3]
In 1980, he was hired for his first coordinator position as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Arizona, a position he held through the 1984 season. In 1986, he moved to Stanford University as the offensive line coach after spending a year in the United States Football League (USFL). In 1987, he took a position with another Pac-10 Conference school, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and then offensive co-ordinator and offensive line coach in 1988. [3] For the 1989 season, he was quarterbacks coach at the University of Maryland. [4]
In 1990, Axman became head coach at Northern Arizona University. [5] During his eight seasons as head coach to 1997, he compiled an overall record of 48 wins and 41 losses and 28 wins and 32 losses in the Big Sky Conference. [6]
In 1998, he moved to the University of Minnesota and became its quarterbacks coach. From 1999 to 2000, he was quarterbacks coach at the University of Washington. From 2001 to 2002, he remained quarterbacks coach at Washington, but added the title of assistant head coach. In 2003, Axman returned to the University of California, Los Angeles as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach before returning to the University of Washington the following season as wide receivers coach in 2004. Axman did not coach during the 2005 season, but moved to the University of Montana as quarterbacks coach in 2006. From 2007 to 2009, he was offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at the University of Idaho. [8] In 2013, he returned to coaching as the quarterbacks coach at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. [9] In mid-September 2014, he was residing in Arizona and was contacted and hired by Nicholls State University as interim head coach and quarterbacks coach for the remainder of the 2014 season after the head coach, Charlie Stubbs, resigned after three games due to health issues. [10] At Nicholls State, Axman compiled a record of 0 wins and 9 losses. [11]
In 1985, Axman was the offensive line coach for the Denver Gold in the United States Football League. [6] In 2018, he returned to professional football as the offensive co-ordinator of the Arizona Rattlers in the Indoor Football League. [12] In 2019, he joined the Arizona Hotshots as quarterbacks coach in the Alliance of American Football. [13]

Karl James Dorrell is an American football coach. He has been the head coach for the UCLA Bruins and Colorado Buffaloes, being named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year for both. Dorrell led the UCLA Bruins to five bowl appearances and was the first African American head football coach in their history.
Robert Anthony Toledo is an American former college football coach and player. Toledo served as the head coach at University of California, Riverside (1974–1975), the University of the Pacific (1979–1982), the University of California, Los Angeles (1996–2002), and Tulane University (2007–2011). He resigned as head football coach at Tulane on October 18, 2011. On January 10, 2013, he was named offensive coordinator at San Diego State University. Toledo retired from coaching after the 2014 season.
Marques Tavita Tuiasosopo is an American college football coach and former professional player. He is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Rice University, positions he has held since 2021. He played as a quarterback for eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Oakland Raiders and the New York Jets. Tuiasosopo played college football for the Washington Huskies and was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 2001 NFL draft.
Richard Gerald Neuheisel Jr. is an American football analyst, coach, and former player. He served as the head football coach at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1995 to 1999, at the University of Washington from 1999 to 2002, and at his alma mater, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), from 2008 to 2011, compiling a career college football coaching record of 87–59. From 2005 to 2007, Neuheisel was an assistant coach with the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL), as quarterbacks coach for two seasons and offensive coordinator for one. He formerly served as head coach for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) before the collapse of the league. Before coaching, Neuheisel played quarterback for the UCLA Bruins from 1980 to 1983, then spent two seasons with the San Antonio Gunslingers of the United States Football League (USFL) before splitting the 1987 NFL season between the San Diego Chargers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Alfred Theodore Tollner is an American former football coach. Merritt James Norvell III is an American college football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at Colorado State University, a position he has held since the 2022 season. Norvell served as the head football coach at the University of Nevada, Reno from 2017 to 2021. His father, Merritt Norvell, was the athletic director at Michigan State University from 1995 to 1998.
Michael Eric Johnson is an American football coach and former quarterback, and current wide receivers coach for Syracuse. He was the interim head coach for the UCLA Bruins football team after serving as their offensive coordinator. Previously, he spent two years with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. Johnson was hired along with former offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye by San Francisco head coach Mike Singletary on February 6, 2009. Raye was fired on September 27, 2010, and Johnson was promoted. Beginning in 2014 he served for three seasons as head coach of The King's Academy Knights in Sunnyvale, California, before being hired as wide receiver coach by the University of Oregon in 2017.
Christopher Joseph Scelfo is an American football coach. He was most recently the offensive line coach for the DC Defenders of the XFL. He was the offensive line coach and run-game coordinator for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football, having previously served in a similar position with the Houston Cougars and Charlotte 49ers. He previously served as the tight ends coach for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He served as head coach at Tulane from 1998 to 2006, including in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and amassed a 37–57 record. He previously held assistant coaching positions at Marshall and Georgia.
Jedd Ari Fisch is an American football coach, currently the head coach at the University of Washington. He was previously the head coach at the University of Arizona for three seasons.
Charlie Stubbs is an American college football coach. He served as head football coach at Nicholls State University from 2010 to 2014, compiling an overall record of ten wins and 38 losses. Stubbs resigned on September 14, 2014, citing health issues for his decision.
Ronald Allen Caragher is an American former college football coach. He was previously the head coach at the University of San Diego and San Jose State. Originally from Morgan Hill, California, Caragher played college football at UCLA and later became an assistant coach for UCLA football, first as a graduate assistant from 1994 to 1995, then as wide receivers coach from 1996 to 2002. From 2003 to 2006, Caragher served as running backs coach for Kentucky and was part of the 2006 Music City Bowl championship coaching staff.
The 2014 Nicholls State Colonels football team represented Nicholls State University as a member of the Southland Conference during the 2014 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Colonels were led by fifth-year head coach Charlie Stubbs for the first three games of the season and then by interim head coach Steve Axman for the final nine. Nicholls State compiled an overall record of 0–12 with a mark of 0–8 in conference play, placing last out of 11 teams in the Southland. The team played home games at John L. Guidry Stadium in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
The 2015 Nicholls State Colonels football team represented Nicholls State University as a member of the Southland Conference during the 2015 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by first-year head coach Tim Rebowe, the Colonels compiled an overall record of 3–8 with a mark of 3–6 in conference play, placing in a three-way tie for eighth in the Southland. Nicholls State played home games at John L. Guidry Stadium in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
