SunTrust Tower (originally American Heritage Life Building) is a skyscraper in the downtown area of Jacksonville, Florida, at the northwest corner of Independent Drive and Laura Street. Standing 357 feet (109 meters) tall, it is the city's sixth tallest building. [3] It was formerly known as the Jacksonville Center and the Humana Building, among other names. [1] VyStar Credit Union purchased the building in summer 2018. Completed in 1989, the building was designed in the postmodern style by the Jacksonville firm KBJ Architects. [1]

A skyscraper is a continuously habitable high-rise building that has over 40 floors and is taller than approximately 150 m (492 ft). Historically, the term first referred to buildings with 10 to 20 floors in the 1880s. The definition shifted with advancing construction technology during the 20th century. Skyscrapers may host commercial offices or residential space, or both. For buildings above a height of 300 m (984 ft), the term "supertall" can be used, while skyscrapers reaching beyond 600 m (1,969 ft) are classified as "megatall".

Downtown Jacksonville is the historic core and central business district (CBD) of Jacksonville, Florida USA. It comprises the earliest area of the city to be developed and is located in its geographic center along the narrowing point of the St. Johns River. There are various definitions of what constitutes Jacksonville's downtown; the one used by the city government and other entities defines it as including five districts: the Downtown Core, the Southbank, LaVilla, Brooklyn, and the Sports Complex. The area features offices for major corporations such as CSX Corporation, Fidelity National Financial, TIAA Bank, Bank of America, Prudential Financial, Wells Fargo, AT&T, and Aetna.

The architecture of Jacksonville is a combination of historic and modern styles reflecting the city's early position as a regional center of business. According to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, there are more buildings built before 1967 in Jacksonville than any other city in Florida, but it is also important to note that few structures in the city center predate the Great Fire of 1901. Numerous buildings in the city have held state height records, dating as far back as 1902, and last holding a record in 1981.

Riverplace Tower

The Riverplace Tower is a 28-floor office building on the south bank of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest building in the state of Florida and was the defining landmark in Jacksonville's skyline. On April 18, 2012, the American Institute of Architects's Florida Chapter placed the building on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places as the Riverplace Tower / Formerly Gulf Life Tower.

Eight Forty One

Eight Forty One is a 309 feet, 22-floor office building on the south bank of St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. Completed in 1955, it was the tallest building in the city for 13 years until surpassed by the Riverplace Tower. It was "The Tallest Office Building in the South" and the tallest in Florida until NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building was completed in 1965. The building's former names include the Aetna Building, Prudential Plaza I or One Prudential Plaza, and the Prudential Building.

Laura Street Trio

The Laura Street Trio is a group of three historic buildings located on and near Laura Street in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The Trio consists of two perpendicularly arranged skyscrapers, the Florida Life Building and the Bisbee Building, plus a third structure, the Old Florida National Bank, which is framed by the other two in a unique pattern. The three buildings, constructed in the wake of the Great Fire of 1901, are architecturally significant, but are currently endangered.

KBJ Architects, Inc. (KBJ) is an American architectural firm based in Jacksonville, Florida. The firm designed 17 of the city's 30 tallest buildings and "created Jacksonville's modern skyline", according to The Florida Times-Union newspaper. The firm designed the first high-rise in downtown Jacksonville, the 22-story Aetna Building, which opened in 1955. It took pride in "having the second-largest number of architects of any Florida firm", according to a 1997 article in The Florida Times-Union.

TIAA Bank Center

TIAA Bank Center is a skyscraper in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. Standing 447 feet tall, it is the city's third-tallest building, as well as the largest in terms of class "A" rentable area with 956,201 sq ft (88,834.0 m2). Formerly known as the Southern Bell Telephone Building, the AT&T Tower, and EverBank Center, it took its former name in 2012 when EverBank moved employees into the building and acquired signage rights. The building is currently called TIAA Bank Center, although no formal announcement has been made, and signage changes have not been completed, as of EverBank's rebranding, effective on June 4, 2018.

SunTrust Center Tallest Highrise in Orlando Florida

The SunTrust Center is a skyscraper located in the Central Business District of Orlando, Florida. Rising to 441 ft (134.4 m), it is the tallest multi-story building in Orlando and Central Florida outside of Tampa. Completed in 1988, it has 35 stories and 30 floors of usable office space. Originally named the Sun Bank Center, the name changed after SunTrust Banks began its series of mergers and acquisitions in the 1990s. It was originally built to serve at the Florida headquarters for SunTrust Banks, but as recently as 2009, SunTrust has vacated over 150,000 square feet (14,000 m2) in an effort to downsize.

Nine-Twelve District

The Nine-Twelve District is a major area of downtown Cleveland, in the U.S. state of Ohio, that is the re-branding of the former Financial District of Cleveland. This re-branding has largely been championed by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. The name refers to the two major commercial avenues between which the district lies, East 9th Street and East 12th Street, with Lakeside Avenue and Euclid Avenue serving as the northern and southern boundaries, repsectively. This revamping and reboot of the Cleveland Central Business District has occurred because property and business owners demanded more investment in the central area. The Auchter Company

The Auchter Company was established in 1929 in Jacksonville, Florida by George D. Auchter. The Auchter Company was one of Florida's oldest general construction contractor. The Auchter Company built many civil and corporate buildings in Jacksonville, including the City Hall. The Auchter Company helped to build ships needed for World War 2, as part of the Emergency Shipbuilding Program the US Navy. After the war the shipyard closed down in February 1946. The Auchter Company built many buildings and bridges until sold on March 26, 2007 to Perry-Mccall Construction Inc.
