The men's 100 metre breaststroke event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games as part of the swimming programme took place on 25 and 26 July at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

Contents

The medals were presented by David Wilkie, Olympic, World and Commonwealth champion and the quaichs were presented by Dursley Stott, Honorary President of the Commonwealth Games Association of the Isle of Man. Adam Peaty of England won the Commonwealth title, just ahead of South Africa's Olympic champion and world record holder Cameron van der Burgh, with 200 metre breaststroke Commonwealth champion Ross Murdoch of Scotland third. The same three athletes finished in the same three positions in the event at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships.

David Andrew Wilkie is a Scottish former competitive swimmer who was Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion in the 1970s. Cameron van der Burgh OIS is a retired South African competitive swimmer and hedge fund analyst. He is Africa's first home-trained world record holder and individual male Olympic Champion. He is married to long time partner Nefeli Valakelis.

Robert "Bobby" Hurley is an Australian swimmer and former World Record holder in the short-course 50 metres Backstroke and 2012 World Champion in the same event. He also won five medals at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. Le Clos has won the Overall Swimming World Cup four times: 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2017. In 2018, Le Clos claimed three gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events at the Commonwealth Games. He also placed second in the 100m freestyle and third, along with teammates Cameron van der Burgh, Calvyn Justus and Brad Tandy, in the 4x100 medley relay. With another win in the 200m butterfly, Le Clos made history by becoming the first man to win three consecutive 200m butterfly Commonwealth titles.

Ross Murdoch is a Scottish competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain in the Summer Olympics, the FINA world championships and the LEN European championships, and Scotland in the Commonwealth Games. Murdoch rose to prominence when he won the gold medal in the 200 metre breaststroke at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, beating favourite, Olympic silver medalist and fellow Scot Michael Jamieson. In 2015, he formed part of the Great Britain squad that won gold in the mixed 4 x 100 metre medley relay at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, swimming in the qualifying heats, and adding a relay world title to the individual bronze won days earlier in the men's 100 metre breaststroke behind teammate Adam Peaty. In 2016, he qualified for the 100m breaststroke for the Great Britain team in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In the same year, he won his first European title with a gold medal in the 200 metre breaststroke, also picking up a silver medal in the 100 metre breaststroke silver medal behind teammate Adam Peaty and a bronze medal in the 50 metre breaststroke.

Adam George Peaty, is a British competitive swimmer who specialises in the breaststroke. He has represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games. He won the gold medal in the 100 metre breaststroke at the 2016 Olympics, the first by a male British swimmer in 24 years. He is the current holder of the world record in 50 metre and 100 metre breaststroke events.

James Wilby is a British competitive swimmer who specialises in the breaststroke. He has represented Great Britain at two FINA World Aquatics Championships, winning a silver in the 100m breaststroke and a gold in the medley relay, and England at two Commonwealth Games, where he has won two gold medals.
