The Swiss Men's Basketball Cup, commonly known as simply the Swiss Cup or as the Patrick Baumann Swiss Cup [1] , is the national cup competition of professional basketball in Switzerland. [2] It is organised by Swiss Basketball, the national governing body of the sport. It is the national federation cup of Switzerland.

Format

Teams from the top-tier levels in Switzerland can participate in the cup competition. A total number of 54 teams play a knock-out tournament, with a final at a neutral venue to determine the cup champions.

The Swiss Basketball League, also known as SB League or SBL, is the top-tier professional club basketball league in Switzerland. It is organized by Swiss Basketball. The winners of the SBL are crowned Swiss national basketball champions. Currently, twelve teams compete in the league. Historically, Fribourg Olympic is the league's most successful team, as it has won a league-record 19 championships. Until 2017, the league was known as the Championnat LNA.

3x3 basketball is a variation of basketball played three-a-side, with one backboard and in a half-court setup. According to an ESSEC Business School study commissioned by the International Olympic Committee, 3x3 is the largest urban team sport in the world. This basketball game format is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, the sport's governing body. Its primary competition is an annual FIBA 3X3 World Tour, comprising a series of Masters and one Final tournament, and awarding six-figure prize money in US dollars. Patrick Baumann (basketball)

Patrick Baumann was a Swiss basketball executive, player and coach. He was the President of the Global Association of International Sports Federations and Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). He was posthumously inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.

Swiss Basketball is the governing sports body of the top-tier level professional basketball leagues in Switzerland. Established in 1929, the organization has its headquarters in Fribourg. Swiss Basketball also manages the Swiss national teams, the Swiss Federation Cup, and the Swiss Youth Championships. Swiss Basketball currently has more than 17,000 members, from its nine regional associations, comprising 185 clubs.

Patrick Burgener Swiss snowboarder

Patrick Burgener, better known as Pat Burgener, is a Swiss professional snowboarder, two-time Olympian and musician. Pat joined the Swiss national team at the age of 14 and landed the world’s first Switch Backside Triple Cork 1440 in April 2011. Pat competed for Switzerland in the men's halfpipe at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang where he finished 5th overall. He earned two bronze medals in the halfpipe events at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2017 and again in 2019. Pat was named to his second Swiss Olympic Snowboard Freestyle Team on 18 January 2022. He represented Switzerland in the men’s halfpipe at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing where he qualified for the finals and placed 11th overall. His career results include also nine World Cup podiums, five European Cup podiums and seven Swiss Champion titles respectively in halfpipe and early on in big air.

Gianluca Barilari is a Swiss professional basketball coach. He was head coach of the Switzerland national team from 2017 to 2021. Before 2017, Barilari coached club teams in Italy, Turkey and Switzerland. He also coached several of Switzerland’s youth national basketball teams.

The SBL Cup is the national professional league cup competition that is organised by the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), which is the top-tier level basketball division in Switzerland. The competition was introduced in 2004, and is the second cup competition that SBL teams play in, along with the Federation Swiss Cup. Formerly, the competition was known as the Swiss Basketball League Cup.

The 2019–20 Swiss Basketball League (SBL) season was the 89th season of the top tier basketball league in Switzerland. On 13 March 2020, the season was ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no champion was declared.

The 2022–23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague will be the 23rd season of the modern era of the EuroLeague, and the 13th under the title sponsorship of the Turkish Airlines. Including the competition's previous incarnation as the FIBA Europe Champions Cup, this will be the 66th season of the premier basketball competition for European men's clubs.
