Tabcorp Holdings Limited (Tabcorp) is Australia's largest gambling company, employing more than 5,000 people. It is the largest provider of lotteries, Keno, wagering and gaming products and services in Australia. Tabcorp is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

History

In 2017 Tatts Group combined with Tabcorp Holdings Limited to create a diversified entertainment group under the Tabcorp brand. The following year UBET was transitioned back into the flagship TAB brand.

Tabcorp history

In 1961 the Victorian TAB (Totalisator Agency Board) was established, legalising off-course totalisator betting. Three years later in 1964 the NSW TAB was created, betting on two race meetings on its first day at Canterbury and Menangle.

Tabcorp was listed on the ASX in 1994, operating a wagering and gaming licence in Victoria. In 1999 Tabcorp announced the acquisition of Star City Holdings Limited and the following year in 2000 it acquired Structured Data Systems Pty Ltd which developed wagering and Keno systems and animated games.

Tabcorp merged with Jupiters Limited in 2003 and a year later completed a takeover for Tab Limited, the NSW-based wagering and media company, including Sky Channel.

In 2011 Tabcorp demerged its casino operations resulting in Tabcorp's casinos business being separately listed as Echo Entertainment Group. The existing wagering, media, gaming and Keno businesses were retained by Tabcorp.

In 2012 Tabcorp commenced operating Victoria's new Wagering and Betting Licence. [2]

In 2014 Tabcorp acquired ACT TAB. [3]

In 2016 Tabcorp acquired the gaming systems company Intecq. [4]

Tatts Group history

TAB Qld (TABQ) opened for business in 1962 and was listed on the ASX in 1999.

In 2002 TABQ changed its name to UNiTAB after acquiring NT TAB and SA TAB.

In 2004 UNiTAB acquired Maxgaming NSW and in 2005 Tattersalls Ltd listed on the ASX and acquired Bytecraft.

Tattersalls Ltd and UNiTAB conducted a merger of equals in 2006 under the Tattersalls brand. In 2007, Tattersalls acquired Talarius and Golden Casket and changed its name to Tatts Group Limited.

In 2010 Tatts Group acquired NSW Lotteries.

In 2012 Tatts Group acquired SA Lotteries and Tote Tasmania.

In 2014 Tatts Group secured a Queensland wagering deal with 30 years exclusivity, and in the same year Victorian Instant Scratch-Its returned to Tatts Group.

In 2015 Tatts Group launched Set For Life and UBET. [5] In 2016 Tatts Group launched the Lott and MAX as well as securing a 15-year monitoring licence. In the same year, Tatts Group sold Talarius to Novomatic.

Operations

Lotteries and Keno

The Lott is a market leader in Australian lotteries. In FY18 the Lott delivered more than $2.7 billion in prize money to Australian players. [6] Its licensee brands include Tatts, NSW Lotteries, Golden Casket and SA Lotteries. The Lott's game brands include:

The Lott products are sold in 3,700+ outlets across Australia, with Keno operating in 3,600+.

In calendar 2018, the Lott sold 472 million tickets and Keno sold 106 million tickets to Australian players. The Lott has 2.98 million active registered customers, with Keno having 38,000 active registered customers. [7]

In 2018, the Lott returned $1.1 billion in lotteries taxes to governments.

Wagering and Media

Tabcorp is the market leader in Australian wagering, operating under the TAB brand.

TAB operates in 4,400+ venues across Australia and in FY18 delivered $1 billion in returns to industry partners. TAB takes 1.1 billion bets annually and has 57% revenue market share. [8]

MAX operates gaming services across 3,500+ venues across Australia. [9]

Totalisator Agency Board Gambling agencies in Australia and New Zealand

The Totalisator Agency Board, universally shortened to TAB or T.A.B., is the name given to monopoly totalisator organisations in Australia and New Zealand. They operate betting shops and online betting. They were originally government owned, but in Australia most have been privatised. In Victoria, for instance, the Victorian Totalisator Agency Board began operating in March 1961 as a state enterprise, and was privatised in 1994.

South Australian Lotteries

South Australian Lotteries, is a lottery company that operates in the Australian state of South Australia. While the license to operate lotteries in South Australia is owned by the South Australian Government they in turn appointed Tatts Group Pty Ltd as the Master Agent and license holder. SA Lotteries operates under Tatts Group's master brand the Lott.

TattsLotto is a weekly lottery game played on Saturday nights in Australia, known as Saturday Lotto in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia, and Gold Lotto in Queensland. It was the first European-format "lotto" style lottery in Australia.

New South Wales Lotteries, is a corporation owned by the Government of New South Wales in Australia. Since March 2, 2010, it has been operated by Tatts Group Limited under a 40-year exclusive licence. It runs games of chance through a network of agents, most of which are newsagencies. It falls under the government portfolio of Gaming and Racing and is governed by the Public Lotteries Act 1996.

Golden Casket

Golden Casket is the public limited lottery corporation in Queensland trading on ASX, Australia. It sells lottery tickets and Instant Scratch-Its tickets (scratchcards) through newsagents and other convenience stores. Lottery draws are televised on Channel Seven four nights a week.

Delaware Lottery

The Delaware Lottery is run by the government of Delaware. Its creation was authorized by the state legislature on May 31, 1974. Its "traditional" games include Play 3, Play 4, Multi-Win Lotto, Lucky For Life, Lotto America, Mega Millions, and Powerball. Delaware also offers Keno, sports betting, and video lottery.

The Michigan Lottery offers numerous on-line and scratch-off games, giving players a wide variety of prize possibilities. Initiated under the authority of Public Act 239 in 1972, the games collect funds to support Michigan’s public school system.

Oz Lotto is a national lottery game, owned by Tatts Group and administered by its lottery brand 'the Lott' in all Australian States with the exception of Western Australia, where the lottery is administered by Lotterywest. The draw takes place each Tuesday at 8.30pm AEST. It was introduced on 26 February 1994 and promoted as Australia's first fully national lottery game, at a time when New South Wales was not a part of the Australian Lotto Bloc. Each game costs $1.10 plus agent's commission.

Ubet (company)

Ubet is an Australian betting brand established in 2015 to rebrand of Tatts Group's wagering business which previously traded as TAB and TattsBet. Historically owned by the Tatts Group since their privatisation by their respective state governments, the four UBET companies are now wholly owned subsidiaries of Tabcorp Holdings Limited as a result of a merger between the Tatts and Tabcorp companies in 2017. UBET operates the statewide Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) agencies in Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory and provides both pari mutuel and fixed odds wagering on thoroughbred racing, harness racing and greyhound racing, as well as major local and international sports events through a network of retail agencies, telephone call centre, on-course betting facilities, its website and mobile apps.

Tattersall's Sweeps, also known as Tatts Lottery, is the subsidiary company of Tatts Group, a public company trading on ASX, Australia. Tattersall's Sweeps is the official licensed operator of lotteries by the Victorian Government. Operating under the brand Tatts, it sells lottery tickets in Australia through the thelott.com website, newsagents, other convenience stores. The company commenced the sale of Instant Scratch-Its tickets (scratchcards) in Victoria in February 2015.

Lottoland Limited is a company based in Gibraltar. One of its main areas of business is offering online bets on the results of more than 30 lottery draws.

The Lott

The Lott also known as Thelott Enterprises Pty Ltd is an Australian lotteries brand encompassing the government licensed lottery businesses Golden Casket, NSW Lotteries, Tattersall's Sweeps and SA Lotteries owned by the Tatts Group. The Lott is owned by Tatts Group Limited and operates lotteries in all Australian States with the exception of Western Australia.
