Taekwondo at the Pacific Games

Taekwondo at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1995 when it was introduced for the tenth edition at Papeete, Tahiti. Women's taekwondo was added in 1999 for the games held in Guam.

Contents

The men's and women's individual competitions have eight weight classes each in accordance with World Taekwondo classifications as of 2019. [1] There are also teams events for men's and women's competition.

Taekwondo has been included in the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the ninth edition at Wallis and Futuna in 2013.

Pacific Games

The taekwondo weight classes contested at each Pacific Games are listed in the table below. Flag icons and three letter country code indicate the nationality of the gold medal winner of an event, where this information is known; otherwise an (X) is used. Moving the cursor onto a country code with a dotted underline will reveal the name of the gold medal winner. A dash (–) indicates a weight division that was not contested.

2011 Pacific Games 2011 Pacific Games held in Nouméa, New Caledonia

The 2011 Pacific Games took place in Nouméa, New Caledonia, from August 27 to September 10, 2011. Nouméa was the 14th host of the Pacific Games. Upon closure of the registration for entries, "some 4,300 athletes" had registered from the twenty-two competing nations, although it was expected that not all would attend.

Taekwondo at the 2007 South Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa was held on 30 August to 1 September 2007. The taekwondo tournament was dominated by Francophone nations winning eleven of the thirteen events. Tahiti, New Caledonia, and Wallis and Futuna won six, four, and one gold medals respectively.

Rugby union in Wallis and Futuna

Rugby union in Wallis and Futuna is a popular sport within the French overseas territory.

Tuvalu participates in the Pacific Games, which is a multi-sport event, with participation exclusively from countries around the South Pacific. It is held every four years. Telupe Iosefa received the first ever gold medal won by Tuvalu at the 2015 Pacific Games in the powerlifting 120 kg male division.

2013 Pacific Mini Games

The 2013 Pacific Mini Games was the ninth edition of these Games. They were held in Mata Utu, Wallis and Futuna, Territory of France, from 2 to 12 September 2013.

Taekwondo, for the 2013 Pacific Mini Games, took place at Kafika Hall, in Mata-Utu. The events, for this sport, took place on the 9 and 10 September 2013.

Wallis and Futuna Rugby Committee

The Wallis and Futuna Rugby Committee is a committee under the umbrella of the French Rugby Federation which is the governing body for rugby union within Wallis and Futuna.

Rugby union at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when included as one of ten sports at the first games held in Suva, Fiji. Rugby sevens is the form of rugby now played at the Pacific Games, with men's and women's tournaments included in the current schedule. The women's competition was added for the first time at the 2011 Pacific Games held in Nouméa.

1969 South Pacific Games third edition of the South Pacific Games

The 1969 South Pacific Games, held from 13–23 August 1969 at Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, was the third edition of the South Pacific Games. A total of 1,150 athletes participated in the games.

Boxing at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when it was included as one of ten sports at the First South Pacific Games held in Suva, Fiji. There are presently ten weight classes for the men's competition at the Pacific Games, known as the South Pacific Games prior to 2011, in accordance with the (amateur) International Boxing Association (AIBA) classifications.

1971 South Pacific Games

The 1971 South Pacific Games, held at Papeete in Tahiti from 25 August to 5 September 1971, was the fourth edition of the South Pacific Games.

1999 South Pacific Games

The 1999 South Pacific Games, held in Guam from 29 May to 12 June 1999, was the eleventh edition of the South Pacific Games.

1997 South Pacific Mini Games

The 1997 South Pacific Mini Games were held at Pago Pago in American Samoa from 11–22 August 1997. It was the fifth edition of the South Pacific Mini Games. It was much larger than previous editions, with an almost doubling of the number of medals awarded compared to the 1993 South Pacific Mini Games. The impressive performances by Nauru in weightlifting continued in Pago Pago, with the tiny nation finishing on top of the unofficial medal table after winning 33 gold.

The 1995 South Pacific Games, held at Papeete in French Polynesia from 25 August to 5 September 1995, was the tenth edition of the South Pacific Games.

The 1979 South Pacific Games, held at Suva in Fiji from 28 August to 8 September 1979, was the sixth edition of the South Pacific Games.

Tuvalu at the 2015 Pacific Games

Tuvalu competed at the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from 4 to 18 July 2015. Nakibae Kitisane was the Chef de Mission. Tuvalu listed 101 competitors as of 4 July 2015. Four competitors qualified for two sports.

Weightlifting at the Pacific Games

Weightlifting at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1966 when it was included as one of twelve sports at the Second South Pacific Games held in Nouméa, New Caledonia. A weightlifting competition for women was introduced in 1995 for the games in Papeete.

Beach volleyball at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1999 when the sport was included at the Eleventh South Pacific Games held in Guam. Since that time, Beach volleyball has been one of the core sports of the Pacific Games, required to be included for both men and women in every games. It has also been included in some of the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the seventh edition held in Palau in 2005.

Taekwondo at the 2019 Pacific Games was held on 16–18 July 2019 in Apia, Samoa.
