African Taekwondo Championships

The African Taekwondo Championships are the African senior taekwondo championships and held every two years by the African Taekwondo Union along with the South African Taekwondo Federation, both the continental affiliates of World Taekwondo. [1] This is a recognized G-4 senior event by World Taekwondo. [2] [3]

Areti Athanasopoulou is a Greek taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the women's featherweight category. She claimed a gold medal in the 59-kg class at the 2003 World Taekwondo Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and represented her nation Greece in two editions of the Olympic Games. Throughout her sporting career, Athanasopoulou trained as a member of taekwondo squad for AS Vyronas Athinaikos in her native Athens, under head coach and master Apostolos Iakovakis.

Tamer Abdelmoneim Hussein is an Egyptian taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's featherweight category. He captured two medals each in the men's 70-kg division at the World Taekwondo Championships, and attained a fifth-place finish at the 2004 Summer Olympics, representing his nation Egypt.

Urgence Mouega is a taekwondo practitioner from Gabon who won a gold medal in the women's lightweight at the 2011 All-Africa Games. In the same event at the 2015 African Games she finished with a bronze medal. She has competed in two editions of the World Taekwondo Championships. The World Taekwondo Junior Championships is a worldwide biennial championship organized for juniors age category by World Taekwondo, first held in 1996 in Barcelona. The event is contested every two years.

Originally scheduled to take place during the summer of 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Avishag Semberg is an Israeli taekwondo athlete. She is an Olympic bronze medalist for Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the women's 49 kg competition. She won Israel's all-time tenth Olympic medal, and is the youngest Israeli to receive an Olympic medal, at the age of 19.
