List of Draughts African Championship winners

The Draughts African Championship is the championship in international draughts (international checkers), organised by the World Draughts Federation (FMJD) and African Draughts Confederation (CAJD). The winner of championship and next three or four players automatically classified into the Draughts World Championship in international draughts. [1]

Contents

First championship was in 1980. The winner was Bassirou Ba from Senegal. Since 2014 championship took place at blitz.

In 2018 took place first women's championship.

The 2016 Women's World Draughts Championship match at the international draughts was held 2–9 September 2016 in Karpacz (Poland) International Draughts Federation FMJD between ranked second at the 2015 Women's World Draughts Championship Natalia Sadowska (Poland) and ranked third at the same Women's World Draughts Championship Olga Kamyshleeva (Netherlands). The current world champion Zoja Golubeva (Latvia) had informed FMJD that she was not willing to defend her title. Natalia Sadowska won and became 9th women's world draughts champion.

N'Diaga Samb is a Senegalese draughts player based in the Netherlands. He took first place at the African Championship in 2016, second place at the African Championship in 1992, 2006, 2014, 2018 and finished third in 2003, 2009 and 2010. He won several international tournaments and was awarded the titles of International Master (MI) in 1992 and International Grandmaster (GMI) in 2000.

The Women's Draughts World Championship is the world championship in international draughts organized by the World Draughts Federation (FMJD). The championship occurs every two years. In the even year following the tournament must take place the World Title match.

Hanqing Zhao is a Chinese international draughts player who ranked second at the 2012 Asian Women's Draughts Championship. She became World Draughts Champion Juniors Girls 2012. She was the champion of China many times. Zhao is an International master (MIF). At 7 years-of-age she begin playing in checkmate. After that she started playing draughts.

You Zhang is a Chinese draughts player, who ranked first at the 2015 Asian Women's Draughts Championship. She took place in 2012 World Mind Sports Games, in 2015 Women's World Draughts Championship, in 2019 Women's World Draughts Championship. You Zhang is a Women's International grandmaster (GMIF).

Olga Baltazhy, nee Olga Hazanovich is a Ukrainian player in the International draughts. Many times champion of Ukraine in International draughts. Olga Baltazhy is a Women's International grandmaster (GMIF). She train by her husband vice president Ukrainian draughts federation Konstantin Baltazhy.

The 2018 Women's World Draughts Championship match at the international draughts was held 19–30 November 2018 in Riga (Latvia) International Draughts Federation FMJD between world champion 2017 Zoja Golubeva (Latvia) and world champion 2016 Natalia Sadowska (Poland). Natalia Sadowska won second title. Prize money 17 000€. If score will be 54:54 both players will receive equally.

Darja Fedorovich is a Belarusian draughts player, was third at the 2019 Women's World Draughts Championship, was second and third at the world championship and twice second at European championship in Russian draughts. She has become the champion of Belarus many times. Darja Fedorovich is a Women's International grandmaster (GMIF) in draughts-64 and in International draughts. Coach Anatoli Gantvarg. Her sister Olga Fedorovich is also Belarusian draughts player.

The 2021 Women's World Draughts Championship match at the international draughts was held 23 April – 3 May 2021 in Warsaw (Poland) International Draughts Federation FMJD between world champion 2019 Tamara Tansykkuzhina from (Russia) and world champion 2018 Natalia Sadowska (Poland). Tamara Tansykkuzhina won seventh title. Prize money 20 000€.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 World Draughts Championship</span>

The 2021 World Draughts Championship at the international draughts took place from June 28 to July 14, 2021 in Tallinn, Estonia under the auspices International Draughts Federation (FMJD). Forty players competed in the tournament, which was played in a COVID bubble at Hotel Viru. In the semi-final all players were divided into four groups. The best three players from each semi-final group went to the final. The championship was played in a round-robin system. The main referee was IR Frank Teer (Netherlands). The winning prize for the tournament was 20,000 euros.
