The first African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for South Africa between 19–26 September 2009. The matches of the championship were to be played at the ice rink of "Festival Shopping Centre" in Kempton Park. The competing countries were to be South Africa, Morocco and Algeria. However, the tournament was postponed due to lack of response from the invited countries and never played.

It bi-annually organizes Hockey African Cup for Nations, a men's and women's hockey tournament for African nations. The main objective of the organization is to make the game of hockey popular in Africa and to increase number of participants.

The 2017 Men's African Hockey Indoor Cup of Nations was held in Swakopmund, Namibia from 23–25 June 2017. The competition featured three teams, an increase from 2013 as Zimbabwe featured for the first time ever. South Africa defeated Namibia in the final and secured a place in the 2018 Men's Indoor Hockey World Cup.
The 2022 Men's FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup would have been the sixth edition of this tournament and scheduled to be played from 2 to 6 February 2022 in Liège, Belgium. It was originally scheduled for February 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
