Para-taekwondo debuted at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. [1]
Para-taekwondo is a variant of taekwondo for athletes with a variety of physical disabilities. The sport is governed by World Taekwondo (WT) since 2006. Only kyorugi (sparring) discipline is included and not poomsae (martial art forms).

The Philippines made its Paralympic Games debut at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul and has been fielding athletes up to the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. Its athletes has won two bronze medals; Adeline Dumapong in powerlifting (2000), and Josephine Medina in table tennis (2016). The country has never won a Paralympic gold medal.
The Asian Paralympic Committee is an organization based in United Arab Emirates. It has 45 National Paralympic Committees of the Asian continent as members. It organizes the Asian Para Games and is affiliated to the International Paralympic Committee.

Brianna Salinaro is a taekwondo practitioner who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. She has cerebral palsy and is from Massapequa, New York. She started Taekwondo at age 9 and in 2016 became the first female para Taekwondo athlete to represent the United States at an international tournament. She was the only Para Taekwondo athlete to compete at the 2020 Paralympic games with Cerebral Palsy. All of Brianna's competitors were upper amputee athletes.
Amy Truesdale is a taekwondo practitioner who won Gold at the 2014 and 2017 Para Taekwondo World Championships.
Anna Poddubskaia is a Russian para taekwondo practitioner. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's 49 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. She competed at the Summer Paralympics under the flag of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

Nathan Cesar Sodario Torquato is a Brazilian para taekwondo practitioner. He won the gold medal in the men's 61 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. In the final, his opponent Mohamed El-Zayat of Egypt was unable to compete due to injury and, as a result, Torquato was awarded the gold medal.
