Paralympic powerlifting has been competed at every Summer Paralympics since 1984. Weightlifting had been on the Paralympic program since 1964; however, after the 1992 Games the IPC decided to drop weightlifting and hold powerlifting events only. Women first competed in the sport at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. [1]

Paralympic powerlifting, also known as para powerlifting and para-lifting, is an adaptation of the sport of powerlifting for athletes with disabilities. The only discipline in Paralympic powerlifting is the bench press. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee and is open to anyone with a minimum level of disability who can extend their arms within 20° of full extension during a lift. Powerlifting has been competed at the Summer Paralympics since 1984.
Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike is a Nigerian Paralympic powerlifter. She has represented her country at six consecutive Paralympic Games from 2000 in Sydney through to 2021 in Tokyo. She has won medals at each, three gold, two silver and one bronze. She won a further silver medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth games women's lightweight category of the Para Powerlifting event behind compatriot Esther Oyema.
Weightlifting is one of the sports at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games competition. It has been a Commonwealth Games sport since 1950. It is a core sport and must be included in the sporting programme of each edition of the Games.
Cui Zhe is a powerlifter from China. She survived polio at two years old, and began powerlifting in 2003. She won the gold medal in the women's 41 kg event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics held in Paris, France.
Fatma Omar is an Egyptian powerlifter competing in the -56 kg category. She is a dominant power in her sport, winning gold in her event in four Summer Paralympics, and another four gold medals at the IPC Powerlifting World Championships.

Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada is a Jordanian Paralympic powerlifter. He is a four-time medalist, including two gold medals, at both the Summer Paralympics and the World Para Powerlifting Championships. He is the first powerlifter representing Jordan to win a gold medal at the Paralympics.
Evânio Rodrigues da Silva is a Brazilian Paralympic powerlifter. He represented Brazil at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and he won the silver medal in the men's 88 kg event. He also competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
Amany Ali is an Egyptian Paralympic powerlifter. She represented Egypt at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and she won the bronze medal in the women's 73 kg event in 2016.

Marzena Zięba is a Polish Paralympic powerlifter. She represented Poland at the Summer Paralympics in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021. She won the silver medal in the women's +86 kg event in 2016 and the bronze medal in this event in 2021.
Olivia Broome is a para powerlifter who won a bronze medal in the under-50 kg events at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympics. She is the British and world junior record holder in the under-50 kg event, and has won multiple Para Powerlifting World Cup medals. She also won the junior under-50 kg event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships, silver medal in the women's 50 kg event, and a silver medal in the lightweight event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Besra Duman is a Turkish Paralympian para powerlifter who competes in the 55 kg division. She won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
Nadia Mohamed Ali is an Egyptian powerlifter. She has represented Egypt at the Summer Paralympics five times, in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2016 and 2024. In her first three appearances there, she had won a medal. She has also appeared in the World Para Powerlifting Championships six times, winning four medals.
